Two teams, Woodrow Wilson and Red Bank Catholic, exited the rankings after tough losses last week where Cherokee shut out Woodrow Wilson by a 35-0 score and Red Bank Catholic lost a tough battle to Middletown South, 32-25. And, of course, River Dell put an end to Ramapo’s 27-game winning streak. Week 3 could be even more exciting and unpredictable. Let’s take a look at the impactful players for this week’s teams ranked 1-5.
Casey Larkin Casey Larkin 6'0" | DB Wall | 2021 State NJ , Wall: Wall sits at No. 5 after dominating in its first two games, defeating Point Pleasant Boro and Neptune by a combined 99-14 score. In a 44-0 shutout of Neptune last week, Larkin ran for two scores and caught another. Quarterback Logan Peters Logan Peters 6'1" | QB Wall | 2021 State NJ had a passing touchdown and rushing score. Wall takes on Jackson Memorial on the road Friday night.
Audric Estime Audric Estime 6'1" | RB St. Joe's Montvale | 2021 State NJ , St. Joseph (Mont.): Estime and No. 4 St. Joseph bounced back from a tight season-opening loss to Bergen Catholic with a 49-21 victory over Seton Hall Prep. St. Joseph has relied on its standout running back. Estime finished with 286 yards on 26 carries with four scores in last week’s victory. The Michigan State commit now has rushed for 462 yards and seven scores in two games. He may need to do it again this week as St. Joseph takes on No. 1 St. Peter’s Prep in a showdown in Jersey City this Saturday.
Tyler Davis Tyler Davis 6'3" | DB Lenape | 2021 State NJ , Lenape: Lenape took care of Eastern, 38-7, last week in what turned out to be its season opener. The No. 3 Indians relied on defense and turnovers. Davis had a 45-yard pick-six early that set the tone. Lenape’s Xavier Coleman Xavier Coleman 5'10" | RB Lenape | 2021 State NJ accounted for three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving. Lenape plays at Seneca Friday night.
Ryan Butler Ryan Butler 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Bergen Catholic | 2022 State NJ , Bergen Catholic: Butler once again had a strong showing last week in a 42-7 blowout victory over Pope John. He rushed for 160 yards on 18 carries with touchdowns of 8 and 10 yards. He has now run for 285 yards through two games. Tywone Malone Tywone Malone 6'4" | DL Bergen Catholic | 2021 State NJ and Dom Brogna each recorded two sacks to lead the defense. Bergen Catholic hosts Paramus Catholic this Saturday.
Marc Pretto, St. Peter’s Prep: It was a defensive showing for No. 1 St. Peter’s Prep as it held off Don Bosco Prep, 21-7, last week. Pretto led the team with 10 tackles and two forced fumbles. He had eight tackles in the season-opening victory over West Orange. St. Peter’s Prep will be tested once again this Saturday when it meets Audric Estime Audric Estime 6'1" | RB St. Joe's Montvale | 2021 State NJ and No. 4 St. Joseph in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
