Two teams, Woodrow Wilson and Red Bank Catholic, exited the rankings after tough losses last week where Cherokee shut out Woodrow Wilson by a 35-0 score and Red Bank Catholic lost a tough battle to Middletown South, 32-25. And, of course, River Dell put an end to Ramapo’s 27-game winning streak. Let’s take a look at the impact players for this week’s teams ranked 11-15.
Jalil Terrel, Phillipsburg: The Stateliners moved up three spots to No. 15 in the state rankings after Phillipsburg defeated Montgomery by a comfortable 28-6 score. Terrel caught a 10-yard touchdown pass and had a 97-yard interception return for a touchdown. Talented running back Matt Quetel Matt Quetel 5'10" | RB Phillipsburg | 2021 State NJ ran for 108 yards and a score for Phillipsburg. The Stateliners will take their 2-0 record to a home game against Hillsborough this week.
Ali Lee, Woodbridge: Woodbridge, No. 14 in the state rankings, opened its season with a 34-0 shutout of Colonia last week. Lee, the school’s all-time leading rusher, had a massive performance with 149 rushing yards and three scores, and he also caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Santino. Lee, who recently committed to Stony Brook, made four receptions for 34 yards in total. He had an interception on defense, too. The Barrons host Scotch Plains-Fanwood Friday night.
Diante Wilson, Union: The Farmers dropped three spots to No. 13 after being upset by Bridgewater-Raritan this past Friday night. Wilson was a force in the backfield with 182 yards on 16 carries, and Rutgers commit Desmond Igbinosun Desmond Igbinosun 6'3" | ATH Union | 2021 State NJ was effective as well. The Farmers will play at Ridge this week.
Andrew Butler Andrew Butler 6'4" | QB DePaul Catholic | 2021 State NJ , DePaul: DePaul dropped four spots to No. 12 after falling to Delbarton in a 24-14 game this past Saturday. The Spartans did a nice job of rallying in the second half after trailing 21-0. Butler, the team’s quarterback, threw for a touchdown and ran for another in the loss. He will look to lead DePaul back on the winning side of things against Seton Hall Prep on Saturday.
Ronnie Heath, Don Bosco Prep: Don Bosco Prep stayed at No. 11 despite falling to the top team in the state, St. Peter’s Prep, 21-7 this past Saturday. Heath, a sophomore, rushed for 74 yards and had the team’s lone touchdown. He has 256 rushing yards and four scores through two games. Bosco meets Delbarton in a battle of ranked teams Friday night.
