Two teams, Woodrow Wilson and Red Bank Catholic, exited the rankings after tough losses last week where Cherokee shut out Woodrow Wilson by a 35-0 score and Red Bank Catholic lost a tough battle to Middletown South, 32-25. And, of course, River Dell put an end to Ramapo’s 27-game winning streak. Let’s take a look at the impact players for this week’s teams ranked 16-20.
Noah Abida, Wayne Hills: Wayne Hills entered the rankings at No. 20 after a 2-0 start and 20-15 victory over Wayne Valley this past week. Abida scored on a 13-yard keeper that led Wayne Hills to the win over its rival. The team made some timely plays on defense and has now won two games by a combined six points. Wayne Hills takes on Old Tappan Friday night.
Kanye Udoh Kanye Udoh 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB St. Augustine | 2022 State NJ , St. Augustine: St. Augustine took a tumble in the rankings after suffering a 22-21 loss to Millville, and is now at No. 19 after being No. 9 the previous week. Udoh did all he could in the game with 189 yards rushing on 27 carries and a 10-yard score. St. Augustine will look to bounce back against Hammonton this week.
Brandon Boria, Cherokee: Cherokee entered the state rankings at No. 18 after pummeling then-No. 12 Woodrow Wilson in shutout fashion, 35-0. The team is now 2-0 after convincing wins over Woodrow Wilson and Pennsauken (42-6). Boria had a fantastic game for Cherokee in the backfield against Woodrow Wilson, rushing for 138 yards on 14 attempts with a 67-yard TD run. Quarterback Billy Osborn threw for a pair of scores and ran for a TD as well. Cherokee will look to keep it going Friday night when it takes on Eastern on the road.
Jayon Farrar, Donovan Catholic: Donovan Catholic went up three spots after a convincing victory over Toms River East. Farrar caught seven passes for 145 yards and had a touchdown in the 40-point win. Jhadir Loftland also made an impact with 130 yards and three scores. Donovan Catholic has a matchup with Toms River South this week in a battle of 2-0 squads.
Patrick Smith Patrick Smith 5'11" | RB Holy Spirit | 2021 State NJ , Holy Spirit: Smith ran for a school-record 362 yards and scored four times as Holy Spirit moved up three spots to No. 16 following a 41-0 shutout of Cedar Creek. The team has been convincing defensively thus far, and Smith is on pace to have a monster year before heading off to Colorado State. The team takes on Vineland this week.
