- RB Lavarion Logan, Merrillville
On paper, this one looks to be one heck of a matchup. Chatard has been lights out on defense, which has in turn led to a lot of offensive opportunities, and points on the board. Merrillville has also been strong on D, but able to control the flow of the game with a strong running game led by 2022 prospect, Lavorion Logan. With 820 yards rushing and 12 TD’s through 5 games, there hasn’t been a team to keep Logan out of the end zone, or to under 100 yards rushing this season. In a game that features two tough and fundamentally sound teams… I see the team that can control the clock, and dominate the run game, as the team that comes out on top. Logan is a young back with a good combo of size and speed. While Merrillville is strong on the OL, Logan is also the type of player that can take what should have been a dead play, all of the way to the house. The ability of Chatard defenders to wrap up and gang tackle will be key in this matchup. If Logan is able to continue his streak of getting in the end zone and rushing for over 100 yards, Merrillville will be in a great position to remain undefeated on the year.
- LB Dalton Hughes, Whiteland
Undefeated Mooresville comes into this game red hot!! They have done it behind the stellar play of 2023 QB prospect (Week 6 Game Ball Recipient) Nicholas Patterson and 2021 RB Breken Greene. Whiteland comes into this game with only one loss on the season, and with a defense that is coming off back to back shutout wins. In order for Whiteland to come out on top here, they are going to need to bring the same defensive intensity that we have seen in the past few weeks. This is why I have chosen 2023 OLB prospect Dalton Hughes as one of this weeks impact players to watch. Although only a sophomore, he has created plenty of havoc for opposing offenses this year. With 36 tackles, 4 sacks, 14 QB hurries, a fumble recovery, and a pass deflection… Hughes has proven to be a dangerous defender in both the run and pass game. With Nicholas Patterson’s ability to make plays with both his arm and feet, it will be important for Hughes to contain Patterson on edge running plays, and to pressure him every time he drops back to pass. Whiteland’s ability to create havoc on defense is key, and Dalton Hughes could be the man for the job.
- WR Jordan Jackson, Lawrence North
The last time Lawrence North beat Warren Central was on October 14th, 2005. Not only has Warren Central dominated this matchup with 18 straight wins, they have a 35-7 record against Lawrence North in the last 42 games played. Judging off historical performances, this game may seem like it should be a walk in the park for Central, but this year is a little different. After starting the year off slow, the Warriors appear to be hitting their stride with two wins in their last three games. Lawrence North came roaring out the gates before losing back to back games, prior getting back in the win column last week against Ben Davis. With a plethora of offensive talent on the Lawrence North side, Warren Central will have to direct much of their game plan towards stopping QB Donaven McCulley Donaven McCulley 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Lawrence North | 2021 State IN and Omar Cooper Omar Cooper 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Lawrence North | 2022 State IN . This is where I see Jordan Jackson having a great opportunity for another big time game. Jackson took advantage of the matchups he was presented last week, with 4 catches for 148 yards and a TD. Not only did he put up big time numbers in an overtime victory, he proved to be a big play threat, and a player that must be accounted for whenever he walks out on the field. This should be a hard fought contest, and a game that I see being won by the team that can make the most explosive plays. With all of the attention Central will be giving North’s “household name” players, I see this as a great opportunity for Jordan Jackson to step up and be the difference in this game.
- RB Colin Price Colin Price 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB Zionsville Community | 2022 State IN , Zionsville
The measure of a great team is often how they bounce back after facing adversity. That is exactly the position that Brownsburg finds themselves in after last week’s overtime loss to Westfield. Teams coming off a loss that derailed an undefeated season can often be at their most dangerous, but they can also come out flat after the previous week’s heartbreak. It will be up to the Zionsville OL, and their Jr RB Colin Price Colin Price 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB Zionsville Community | 2022 State IN , to throw the first punch if they want to have a repeat of last years playoff win over Brownsburg. With 735 yards rushing and 8 TD’s on the year (6 rushing/2 receiving), the all-purpose back is a threat as both a runner and a receiver out of the backfield. He has yet to be held under 100 yards rushing on the year, and is a proven home run hitter with long runs of 74 and 55 yards this season. Brownsburg was one of two teams to hold him under 100 yards last season. But, this is a new season, and the Jr RB has another year of experience and development under his belt. In order for Zionsville to have a chance at the upset, they are going to need to ride Price as much as possible, because it is only a matter of time before he breaks off a big run. If Zionsville can start strong and get a couple of big plays from Price, we could see a game that goes down to the very end!
