After winning five games a year ago, expectations were high for the Blue Devils, and behind senior quarterback Jack Franey.
Franey has completed just under 64 percent of his passes for 1,304 yards. He has an eye-popping 26-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio with a quarterback rating of 158.2.
The multi-sport athlete has also flexed his skills in the run game, adding 244 yards and 10 trips to the end zone.

At the moment, Franey ranks second in the state in total touchdowns with 36, second in passing TDs and sixth overall in yards.
Like all around the state, the prospect of even playing was in doubt over the summer due to the novel coronavirus. But Martensdale-St. Mary’s has been able to strap up and go to battle each of the past six weeks.
“It has been so awesome being able to go out and play with my guys every Friday night,” Franey said. “We have been doing a really god job keeping COVID out of our community. We have wore masks at school all year and because of that, we have not had a single case throughout the whole school so far.”
On the field, the Blue Devils have been lighting up the scoreboard. They have posted over 57 points in all six games, including a 57-12 victory over Mormon Trail last week. They had a season-high 77 two weeks ago and have surpassed 60 points four other times.
“Finishing strong keeps the momentum going that we have had all year,” Franey said. “It keeps everyone dialed in for hopefully another six weeks after this Friday.”
The expanded playoffs will include nearly everybody this season, presenting a different challenge for programs.
After dealing with so much, Franey and his teammates are excited for what is to come for both themselves and the school.
“Playing at Martensdale under Coach Wharton has meant everything to me,” he said. “The community has pushed our team to continue to compete and build a tradition for many of our younger kids.
“Martensdale has been a perfect play to grow up in with all the support we receive from the community.”
Over the weekend, Franey committed to play at Central College.
