One of the most dynamic players in New Mexico High School football finally has the opportunity to play at the next level.

2021 Las Cruces quarterback Marcos LopezMarcosLopez6'1" | QBLas Cruces | 2021StateNM, arguably the top player in southern New Mexico, has been offered by Div. III Hiram College in Ohio.

"The offer means a lot," Lopez told Prep Redzone New Mexico. "It’s very exciting to have an opportunity to play at the next level."

Lopez threw for 1,874 yards and accounted for 23 total touchdowns to lead the Bulldawgs to an undefeated District 3-6A record and a spot in the Class 6A quarterfinals in 2019.

With Lopez at quarterback, Mando Villesca (averaged 10.6 yards per carry in 2019) at running back, a solid offensive line and a reliable defense, Las Cruces is optimistic they have the talent to challenge for top honors in Class 6A.

"I think we’re contenders for a state championship," Lopez said. "We are going to have a lot of new faces and names making plays this year. The goal is always a state championship and that’s what we’re working towards."
