Since that 42-18 victory, the Indians have rolled over each opponent sent out to face them, carrying a 6-1 mark into a second round Class 2A playoff game with Anamosa this week.
One of the leaders of the team is senior Jordan Lawrence, who placed his name in the school record books for receiving this season. Lawrence has caught 45 passes for 639 yards with nine touchdowns, adding 88 yards rushing and a score along with a passing TD to his line.
For his career, Lawrence has 91 receptions for 1,327 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’s also spent plenty of time at quarterback over the past three years.
“After losing Week 1, we came out with a different energy and went undefeated since then, so I would say that loss was beneficial for our team,” Lawrence said. “We really focused up after that. Since Week 2, our focus has been really sharp and I don’t think that will change that much.
“We are aware that it is the playoffs, but we know that if we just do our thing and keep doing what we’ve been doing for the past six or seven weeks, good things will happen for us.”
Camanche won its district for the first time in school history this past season, something Lawrence says “we are really proud of, but we know we can’t be satisfied, especially now that we are in the postseason.
“It obviously gets a little more serious now, so I think we will have more guys stepping up,” he added. “Since we had a bye in the first round, we had a week to recover from the regular season, so I think that was helpful.”
Lawrence, a multi-sport standout for the Indians, finished the regular season second in receiving yards in 2A and receiving touchdowns. He had an 11-catch, 147-yard, 2-TD night in a Week 7 win over Maquoketa.
