Continue ReadingIn what was the most uncertain offseason in decades, three former Minnesota preps made the decision to transfer out of the state to play their final high school season. These studs: former Tartan WR Dorian Singer and ex-Stewartville athletes Josh Buri Josh Buri 5'11" | RB Stewartville | 2021 MN (RB) and Parker Theobald Parker Theobald DL Stewartville | 2021 MN (DE), made a tough personal decision to leave MN during a pandemic, but it seems to be paying off. Singer transferred to Arizona big-school powerhouse Pinnacle, and Buri and Theobald headed west for Brookings Hugh School in South Dakota, as the three are putting up crazy numbers and leading their teams to a ton of success in 2020. Let’s check in on the senior transfers and see how their final season is going
Dorian Singer 6’1, 180 lbs. WR
Since he’s moved to the Phoenix area Singer has earned his 14th Division 1 offer from Northern Arizona. He has taken up with 2023 QB Devon Dampier Devon Dampier 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Saguaro | 2023 State AZ – whose brother Will was a 2020 graduate of Champlin Park – to become one of the most lethal QB/WR duos in Arizona football. In Week 1 for Pinnacle HS against Horizon he recorded eight catches for 143 yards and three 3 TDs and threw a 71-yard TD pass as well. During Week 2 against Desert Vista he made a beautiful leaping back-shoulder catch in the endzone with a DB draped all over him, a tough endzone catch that was somewhat under-thrown and with a DB in good position, and a big catch on a post. He also ran the rock well a couple times. In a big Week 3 matchup against highly-touted Chandler, Pinnacle got crushed, but Singer still made some big plays. Chandler has a great defense with a ton of FBS talent, but Singer certainly looked liked he belonged as he made great use of a couple WR screens, ran the ball hard on a jet sweep for a first down, and made a bunch of Chandler defenders miss. His routes and ball-skills are looking impressive as always, and he’s looking incredibly shifty in the open-field. I’m excited to continue to follow his season and I hope some more FBS coaches are paying attention. vs. Horizon vs. Chandler vs. Desert Vista
Parker Theobald Parker Theobald DL Stewartville | 2021 MN 6’2, 240 lbs. Runs a 4.76 40. DL
As of today Theobald holds offers from Southwest Minnesota State and Northern State, and should definitely hold more NSIC offers at this point in the season. He’s helped lead Brookings HS to a 7-0 start in 2020, and according to MaxPreps he’s recorded 42 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 1 FF, and 1 FR in those seven games. Two Friday’s ago he popped off for 8 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks, and a FF. He’s playing on both the OL and DL as well, and you have to watch him in space as a puller, it’s impressive to say the least. He looks and moves like a FB despite weighing in at 240, and he’s helped spring fellow Minnesotan Buri for more than a few big runs. On the DL he’s incredibly hard to move and holds his gap well even when facing doubles. He also has a great understanding of leverage, and fires out of his stance on the DL with a ton of explosion. I think he’d be a great DL in college but I could see him playing a lot of different spots in the trenches. vs. Mitchell vs. Douglas vs. Madison vs. Lennox vs. Huron
Josh Buri Josh Buri 5'11" | RB Stewartville | 2021 MN 5’11, 210 lbs. GPA 3.0
Buri has taken SD prep football by storm since he burst onto the scene this season. As of today he holds offers from Winona State, Southwest Minnesota State, UMD, Northern State, MSU-Mankato, Bemidji State, and UMary. Every single week it seems that the 210 lber. puts up crazier and crazier stat-lines, and only last week he talled 29 carries for 266 yards and 2 TDs. The previous week he ran for 233 yards, and before that he ran for 185 and 3 TDs. He’s been nominated multiple times for the SD player of the week as well as for the play of the week, and has made some insane TD runs that include hurdles, truck sticks, stiff arms, spin moves, and anything else you can think of. Buri is a special blend of speed and size, as he can get his 210 lb. frame MOVIN’ and absolutely has the ability to take the ball to the house, and run through you or around you to get there, on every single play. His balance and vision are some of the more underrated parts of his game as well. He’s just an joy to watch run the football. I’m certain he could play in the Missouri Valley, and I’m really hoping the Jackrabbits or Coyotes will offer up in 2020, because he’s a special RB. Posted below are only a few of his Twitter-worthy highlights from October and September.
