Continue ReadingAs we are now just a ways past the midway point of the season, we wanted to start our first weekly segment on Prep Redzone Dakotas by handing out “Big Dogs of the Week” from players who stood out Williston to North Sioux City each week. Where did the Big Dogs of the Week come from? In one of my first years writing and scouting football, I wanted my own twist, so when I would go to games, I would start calling the standouts my “Big Dogs of the Week.”
How Can You Become a Big Dog?
Each Monday, we will lock in on Twitter and ask who stood out in last Friday’s games. We, of course, do our research as on who played well in the Dakotas, but we also rely on you, the fans, subscribers, etc., to let us know about that great game out of a kid that might be from an area we haven’t covered yet or didn’t have a live stream to watch. We at Prep Redzone Dakotas are all about giving kids love, and it doesn’t matter where you’re from in the Dakotas, what class of football you play, we are here to give you exposure!
Uriah Glynn Uriah Glynn 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB RC Stevens | 2022 State , RB, Rapid City Stevens (2022) (SD)
Stat Line: 14 carries, 214 yards, 3 TDs
Eval: Glynn is just a blitz of speed out the gates for Rapid City Stevens. You would think with all that speed he would take his talents to the sidelines of the field and break one loose, but with his terrific vision, he’s able to use his football IQ and read well between the tackles. Plus, he can break the length of the field, as you’ll see below.

Josh Buri Josh Buri 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Brookings | 2021 State , RB, Brookings (2021) (SD)
Stat Line: 19 carries, 266 yards, 2 TDs
Eval: If you ask me, knowing Buri from his Minnesota days, I think the kid’s taken his rushing attack to the next level in a Brookings Bobcats uniform. Yes, I saw plenty of excellent runs in his Stewartville days, but the aggressiveness of his runs has only gotten better since he has brought to Brookings.
Cody Thompson Cody Thompson 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Lemmon/McIntosh | 2021 State , QB, Lemmon/McIntosh (2021) (SD)
Stat Line: Over 250 yards of total offense, four total TDs
Eval: Thompson has a laser pointer falling out of his hand, and it’s very much worth watching. Probably has one of the best touches I have seen on the football in the entire state of South Dakota. Thompson throws make him seem like he would be able 6’4-6’5 but does so well in a 6’0 body.
Emmet Kenney Emmet Kenney K Fargo Shanley | 2021 State , Kicker, Fargo Shanley (2021) (ND)
Stat Line: Two 50+ yard field goals in Week 6 after setting a state record last week at 58 yards.
Eval: Kenney has taken his kicking to the next level this season with three 50+ yards kicks in the last two games. His long previous year? 43 yards. We said it on Twitter the other day, Kenney is the best specialist in all of the Dakotas and has a long leg that could stretch well in FBS, although Kenney has two FCS offers to date already locally.
Trey Jacob, RB, Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock (ND)
Stat Line: 33 carries, 257 yards, 3 TDs
Eval: Jacob is a ground and pound running back for L-HMB. He is one that has a great burst off the snap, but you won’t see the massive gain on film. Fighter type back, which makes nothing but sense as he also wrestles for L-HMB.
Tate Johnson Tate Johnson 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Brandon Valley | 2021 State , RB, Brandon Valley (2021) (SD)
Stat Line: Over 200 yards rushing, 3 TDs
Eval: Who is surprised to see last year’s 11AAA player of the year on this list this week? I certainly am not. Johnson takes zero time to put the pedal down and put it in motion. Johnson might be undersized from coaches’ eyes, but if you can build him up a little bigger, he could be an asset to your program at the college level coming out of a great football program in Brandon Valley.
Jordan Sours Jordan Sours ATH Lisbon | 2021 State , QB/ATH, Lisbon (2021) (ND)
Stat Line: 184 yards rushing, 4 TDs
Eval: Can you say Wildcat QB1? Sours you’ll see for Lisbon a lot out of the backfield and is a kid that runs with such finesse, he could be a problem to get a tackle on if he’s coming at you. Sours was one we were lucky to find from of the 6-0 Broncos on our prospect rankings, as defensively, the most they have allowed in a game this season is just 7 points to Northern Cass.
Kobey June, ATH, Dakota Valley (2021) (SD)
Key Play: Game clinching interception for the Panthers in their upset with over #1 seed Dell Rapids.
Eval: If I could say one thing in the early goings of scouting for the Dakotas, it’s this: I missed on Kobey June. He should be much higher in the Athlete category than I had him. June has so much burn when he has the football and is superb in the yards after the catch category. Plus, he’s a gamechanger, which is why you should watch his interception in their win over Dell Rapids last Friday, putting the Panthers to 4-2 in 11A.
Kobey June’s @kobey_june late pick seals the deal in DV’s @strength_dv stunning upset of # 1 Dell Rapids ! @club_dv and is your Prestige Play of the Game ! @prestigecollis1 watch on demand at https://t.co/rAXi7modze pic.twitter.com/N3UEbWUtpA
