Let’s get into some of the guys that stood out along with other notes:
Offensive standouts
Northwestern
2021 WR Kyle Aldridge (6’3, 263 lbs.) — Northwestern is known historically as being a passing team but they went to the run game Friday night and Aldridge ran hard as he was used as a running back who got the ball 32 times. He did a good job of finding the holes.
2022 WR Christian Watkins (5’7, 145 lbs.) — Watkins was shifty and made guys miss with his quickness. That talent was on display on a 3rd and 16 conversion which later led to a spectacular 20-yard touchdown catch to extend the Trojans lead to 17-3 in the third quarter.
South Pointe
2021 QB Nebanye Moore – South Pointe made a change at quarterback in the second quarter and was able to keep plays alive by scrambling.
Defensive standouts
Northwestern
2021 LB Derrick McCrorey (6’ 210 lbs.) — This linebacker was active and his quick lateral movements made South Pointe’s read option game with 2021 QB Omega Blake and 2021 QB Nebanye Moore non-existent. And he was effective in spying the quarterback.
2022 DB Tay McCroey (6’ 161 lbs.) – South Pointe’s offense was hesitant to run plays to his side because when they did, McCroey was disruptive. He forced a fumble and almost had a pick six as his closing speed on the ball was impressive.
South Pointe
2021 DL Shadarius Williams — He had a sack at the end of the third quarter and really made Northwestern 2022 QB Will Mattison feel it as he wrapped him up with a nice form tackle ending a Trojan drive.
