Previously, I highlighted the top-performing quarterbacks and running backs in the OK Conference at the mid-way point of the season. Today, I’m highlighting the top wideouts in the area. Below are the four wideouts who have produced consistently over four weeks.
Blake Bosma Blake Bosma 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR West Ottawa | 2021 State MI , West Ottawa
While West Ottawa might be having a tough year, a bright spot has been the most targeted wide receiver in the area, Blake Bosma Blake Bosma 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR West Ottawa | 2021 State MI . Through four weeks, Bosma has hauled in 55 receptions for 634 yards, five receiving touchdowns, and one rushing score. He’s been simply unstoppable so far this season, averaging 158 receiving yards per game.
Bosma has good size and uses his length effectively when going up for passes that can be seen as 50/50 balls. Bosma has shown he can do damage after the catch by using his physicality to earn extra yards. Bosma also does a great job of adjusting to balls on the fly.
Jace Williams Jace Williams 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2021 State MI , Catholic Central
Jace is regarded as the top wideout prospect in the area due to his length, athleticism, and ball skills. Those attributes have been on display through the first four weeks of the regular season as he’s been a key source of offense for the 4-0 Cougars. Williams wasted no time getting going as he hauled in eight catches for 119 yards and three touchdowns in Catholic Central’s week one win over Wayland. In week two, Williams caught seven balls for 141 yards and two touchdowns against Thornapple-Kellogg. In week four, Williams showed off his speed, hauling in a 66-yard touchdown pass during a win over Kenowa Hills.
William’s combination of speed and athleticism is usually overpowering for the majority of defensive backs he’s faced this season. When you combine his route running and leaping ability, you can see why a large contingent of Division I schools are after his services.
Elliot Grashius, South Christian
Elliot has been the number-one target for the 4-0 Sailors. His chemistry with Quarterback Ty Rynbrandt has been evident as the duo has given the rest of the OK Gold problems all season. Grashuis’s highlights through four weeks include six catches for 89 yards in the Sailor’s week three win over Ottawa Hills and six catches for 121 yards and a touchdown in South Christian’s week four win over Cedar Springs.
Standing at 6’4″, Grashuis is a hard target to defend, especially in the red zone. His ability to box out defenders in the endzone on fade routes has been an instrumental part of South Christian’s success as he has the size, strength, and hands to secure jump balls against defensive backs. In open-field situations, Grashuis has shown the footwork to make a move and get past the first would-be tackler.
Grant Lancaster Grant Lancaster 6'2" | Wide Receiver Forest Hills Eastern | 2021 MI , Forest Hills Eastern
Lancaster has helped lead the high-powered Forest Hills Eastern offense (31.5 ppg) to a 3-1 start in the OK Gold this season. He’s the main target in the Hawks passing attack and has been producing consistent numbers on a weekly basis. In week two, Lancaster caught five passes for 100 yards and hauled in two touchdown receptions. He followed that up with a week three performance that included three touchdown catches in Eastern’s 41-32 win over Kenowa Hills.
In addition to his speed that he puts on display in downfield passing situations, his smoothness in his route running stands out to me the most. His routes are crisp and makes his cuts with a purpose. Additionally, Lancaster has flashed his athleticism, showing he can go up and get the ball in a crowd.
