After getting a defensive stand on the opening drive, fullback Seth Cromwell Seth Cromwell 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Columbine | 2022 State CO broke free for a 73-yard touchdown run on Columbine’s second offensive play of the game.
From there, it was all Columbine, with the offense building up its lead and the defense getting multiple stops. Arvada West was able to hang around early with its own defensive stands, but it was Columbine who pulled away for the 34-10 win to improve to 2-0 on the season.
There were many standout performances from athletes on both teams in the win. Here are the players of the game.
Seth Cromwell Seth Cromwell 5'10" | 215 lbs | RB Columbine | 2022 State CO , 2021, 5’10, 185, RB/LB, Columbine
On the first offensive and defensive drives for Columbine, he proved why he is a team leader this season. It started with his defense where he made some tackles in the open field that limited the yards gained by ball carriers and prevented them from breaking some big runs. He did an excellent job of getting low, wrapping up the legs and getting any ball carrier down that was in his way. Then he broke a 73-yard rushing touchdown, flashing his speed with the ball in the open field. Cromwell had a big night rushing the ball and will be the feature back in Columbine’s offense, and his defense will also be a factor.
Elijah Ivie Finch, 2021, OL, Columbine
There were a lot of options along the offensive line to select for Columbine. They did a good job getting push off the ball and opening up run lanes. Ivie Finch was solid at the tackle spot all night. Whether it was pushing an interior lineman down to open a running lane behind him, getting four or five yards off the line of scrimmage to get to the next level, or holding off guys on the back side to prevent a pursuit from following his backs, he was opening up lanes all night long. Finch shined on both the right and left side of the line as well, bringing versatility to the offensive line. Plenty of options, but Finch really stood out on the film throughout the game.
Wes Jones, 2022, 6’0, WR/DB, Columbine
We know Columbine can run the ball, but the minute you load the box to stop it, they’ll take their shot down the field with a deep shot in the passing game. Jones has become that receiving threat for Columbine and had some big receptions, including a touchdown reception on a play-action pass in the second half. There was also a rushing touchdown from him as he got a handful of carries in the win. Jones also put his hands to good use on defense with an interception. The speedster made the most of his chances when he was called upon in the win.
Ean Lee, 2022, WR, Arvada West
Arvada West has made it a priority to get the ball in Lee’s hands. After hauling in seven receptions in Week 1, Lee became the primary receiver again versus Columbine. The junior is a perfect fit in the slot and runs sharp routes with tight breaks, which allow him to create enough separation for the quarterback to throw to him. When the ball is in his hands, he does a good job gaining extra yards after the catch. Most of his production was working toward the sideline in the short and intermediate passing game, and even though Columbine knew he was the guy they had to stop, he still managed to bring in a number of receptions.
Xavier Nail, 2022, LB, Arvada West
Nail and company did all they could early in the game to keep Arvada West close on defense. Nail had an excellent break on a pass in the second quarter and got an interception that halted a drive where Columbine was moving the ball. Nail was also active from his trying to stop the run game after a team-high 12 tackles in Week 1. The junior linebacker showed a good combination of speed and power to make plays against the run and the pass.
