Continue ReadingWe’re a few weeks into the season now and many quarterbacks have been lighting up the stat sheet. The peach state is home to some of the nation’s top gunslingers and they have certainly lived up to the hype so far this season.
The current passing leader in the state is senior Kyle Moseley of Georgia Force Christian. He may not be the biggest guy at just 5-foot-11 170-pounds, but he’s had an excellent first few games of the season. He’s played in five games so far, so more than most quarterbacks, but the numbers are still impressive. He’s thrown for 1,340 yards this season for 19 touchdowns through five games. His completion percentage needs improving, but he’s throwing the ball for lots of yards and finding the end-zone more often then not. Moseley is a sleeper quarterback in the 2021 class to remember for the rest of the fall.
Right behind Moseley on the passing list is Flowery Branch junior David Renard. Through 4 games, Renard has thrown for 1,290 yards and had found the end-zone 8 times, leading Flowery Branch to a current 3-1 record. The 6-foot-1 170-pounder had hid biggest game recently against Gainesville, throwing for 373 yards and 3 scores. Renard is very efficient with the football and rarely makes a mistake in the pocket. He’s accurate on short to intermediate passes but has also shown he can push the ball downfield. Renard is one of the many under the radar 2022 quarterbacks in North Georgia.
Next there’s 5-star quarterback, Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA . The 6-foot-3 210-pounder from Prince Avenue Christian has earned his high ranking so far this year, throwing for 1,274 yards and 14 touchdowns so far in five games. The Wolverines had a tough loss to Rabun County early in the season, but they have been on fire ever since. Vandagriff may have the strongest arm in the state, proving he can make about every throw you could draw up. Not only is he accurate and smart with the football with a 68% completion percentage, he’s also an outstanding runner. It’s his strong arm that’s made him a five-star, and he’ll be showing it off for the rest of the 2020 season as he looks to lead the Wolverines towards a state championship.
After Vandagriff, is the sensational sophomore, Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA . Just one yard shy of Vandagriff for 3rd in the state, the Brookwood star has thrown for 1,273 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first four games. Not only is he lighting up the stat sheet, but more importantly, he’s leading his team to wins. Lonergan has led the Broncos to two improbable 4th-quarter victories so far this year, proving that he’s a true winner and leader as a sophomore. He’s another young star with a strong arm who can push the ball deep downfield. He’s got excellent weapons on the outside and a running game that helps him out, but his arm could be the reason the Broncos make another deep playoff run this fall.
Rounding out the current top 5 in Georgia is Collins Hill star, Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA . One of the top-ranked juniors in the entire country, Horn is a big bodied pocket passer at 6-foot-4 180-pounds who can really zip the ball downfield. He can rip it deep and has shown he can throw on the run as well. His numbers fell a little bit after his big 364-yard game in the season opener, but his 1,269 yards so far still has him in the top 5 in passing yards. Horn and the Eagles have a chance to go deep into the 7A playoffs this year, so he has a chance to land the number 1 spot when it’s all said and done in 2020.
