However, the scoreboard doesn’t do it justice, as Coconino had 3 of their scoring drives start in the red zone, while Prescott had a turnover and two failed 4th down attempts in the Coconino red zone. Take a look at the top 5 offensive players of the game:
Offensive MVP: Manuel Cardoza, RB/LB, Coconino, (2021)
Cardoza was effective in a variety of ways. He scored 3 TD’s by catching 2 and rushing for one. He had a 60+ yard swing pass that he took to the house. He showed very good speed as he was able to burn past Prescott defenders in the open field. He showed to be a solid route runner as well, but his speed helped him get over the top of Prescott’s DB’s. He hits top speed quickly and was difficult to catch in open field. He returned kicks as well and had some decent returns, and proved to be a very versatile player throughout the game.
Zachary Bennett Zachary Bennett 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Coconino | 2021 State AZ , RB, Coconino (2021)
Bennett was a workhorse for Coconino. He was able to punch in 2 TD’s from inside the 10, and consistently led the Coconino offense down the field with around 145 rushing yards on the night. Bennett is a tough, strong kid with massive potential. He did a good job of directing his blockers and cutting off their blocks to make plays. He showed very good strength and bounced off tackles, while utilizing a dangerous stiff arm. Bennett is the workhorse of Coconino, and has played the biggest role in why they are now 3-0.
Ryan Seery, QB, Coconino (2021)
Although Coconino doesn’t throw often, Seery was very effective in the air. He tossed 2 TD’s on less than 8 attempts. He made excellent reads on his two TD passes, and look comfortable the few times he set up in the pocket. He tossed a dime in the back corner of the end zone but it was dropped by a wide open Coconino receiver, which could have easily made it a 3 TD night for Seery. Seery showed good athleticism and was a sneaky ball carrier with good mesh points in a tight wing-t offense.
Cody Leopold Cody Leopold 5'10" | 185 lbs | ATH Prescott | 2023 State AZ , RB/LB, Prescott (2023)
The Prescott sophomore showed a high level of toughness and was able to break a couple 20+ yard runs. Leopold has a strong, athletic build and showed small spurts of big play potential. He took some huge hits from the Coconino defense, and was able to pop back up and get another carry the next play. Leopold is an aggressive ball carrier and showed to be an extremely tough kid.
Nate Wright, ATH., Prescott (2021)
Wright is a workhorse for Prescott. Although he was unable to find the end zone, he showed big play spurts throughout the entire game. He led Prescott to the red zone twice by pounding and grinding the ball between the tackles. He has very good speed and can flat out lay people out on both sides of the ball. He is explosive through the hole, even though he was met immediately there tonight. Wright showed a great stop and go ability when he caught a screen and was able to juke and jive around 4 Coconino defenders for about 25 yards. He has room to put on size, and can transition to multiple positions at the college level.
