Running backs are king in high school football. Teams like to establish the run early and keep drives alive on the ground. That is especially true of these teams because of their backfield. Here are some top running backs to keep an eye on heading into Week 3.

Cookie Desiderio (2021) | Somerville

How could this list not begin with the bruising running back from Somerville? Desiderio got hot early against Rahway in Week 2 and totaled 301 rushing yards on 32 carries. He got in the end zone five times in a 46-12 victory. Desiderio is off to a raging hot start during his senior season.

Patrick SmithPatrickSmith5'11" | RBHoly Spirit | 2021StateNJ (2021) | Holy Spirit

Smith has been a workhorse for Holy Spirit for years now. He turned in one of his best games in Week 2 with 30 carries for 362 yards and four touchdowns. Smith score the first four touchdowns of the game for Holy Spirit with two of them coming from 47 and 48 yards.
