65. Jaden Brocchini – Summerville – DUAL
Once Brocchini gets out of the pocket, opponents should have double coverage in play or risk giving up a lot of yards. Brocchini has speed, footwork, and can avoid linebackers with the ability to change directions quickly. He also has a strong arm for passing and has the height to throw over defensive linemen. At seasons end, he was first-team in the Mother Lode League.
64. Sean Carpenter – Lodi – DL
The Lodi Flames had their first winning season since 2010 and allowed the second-fewest points in the Tri-City Athletic League (TCAL) behind the St. Mary’s Rams. Defensive players who deserve recognition are players such as Sean Carpenter, who was named second-team in the league. He is a commanding defensive tackle with the ability to overpower offensive linemen and get to the ball carrier to make a play. The Flames will host the Grant Pacers to begin their season on Jan. 8.
63. Aiden Meyer – Hughson – PRO
One of the top junior passers in the section is a sleeper coming into his senior year. Meyer can throw deep balls, make an accurate pass on the run and put points on the board for the Hughson Huskies. Keep an eye on Meyer in (Trans Valley) league play as the Huskies will have a competitive schedule with two state champions (Ripon and Escalon) in their league. Meyer was also named to the second-team in the league last season.
62. Cameron Pereira – Tracy – DL
A few Tracy Bulldogs on offensive have been highlighted in this series, but their defense deserves credit as well. Pereira plays the defensive end position exceedingly well with quick feet off the line of scrimmage and making a solo tackle to stop the play. He was arguably the top junior defensive player for the Bulldogs last season with having the most sacks and solo tackles on the team among juniors. Pereira was also first-team in TCAL.
61. Will Gilbert – Ripon Christian – ATH
Being a tri-athlete for the Ripon Christian Knights, Gilbert brings a lot of athleticism to the gridiron on both offense and defense. The Knights were one of the top defensive teams in the section and Gilbert’s five interceptions on the year not only added to the team’s talent but were also the second-most by any junior in the Southern League. He also added three touchdowns on the receiving end to the Knights, the only junior on the roster to have three or more. Gilbert was selected first-team in the Southern League.
