Continue ReadingThe series of city rankings will continue with the top talent in the Central Valley District within the Sac-Joaquin Section that covers the counties of San Joaquin, Merced, Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Calaveras, and Amador. This series will be players in the 2021 class.
Each article will include a breakdown of five players with their 2019 statistics and highlight tape.
95. Alex Sandoval – Lincoln (Stockton) – OL
Sandoval and the talented offensive line of the 2019 Lincoln Trojans played a big part in leading the program to their first winning season since 2015. As a team, the Trojans finished fifth in rushing within the section with two underclassmen Jonah Coleman Jonah Coleman 5'9" | 200 lbs | RB Lincoln - Stockton | 2022 State CA and Kenyon Nelson Kenyon Nelson 6'1" | 205 lbs | ATH Lincoln - Stockton | 2023 State CA were among the top rushers un their respective class. At tackle, Sandoval played a contributing factor allowing time for Rashada to orchestrate the RPO (run-pass option) play or creating space for Coleman resulting in a long gain of rushing yards. Sandoval also was an honorable mention for Tri-City Athletic League.
94. Logan McCleery – Patterson – QB
The 2021 class within the section has a lot of quarterback talent and pro-style quarterback Logan McClerry adds to the mix. As also a forward in basketball, he uses his height to his advantage to throw the deep ball over incoming defensive ends and linebackers. His tape will show his ability complete passes on gutsy scrambles and throw for a first down. These skills ultimately led to McClerry to be the Central California Conference (CCC) leader in passing yards. He finished second behind Atwater’s Julius Peacock for most touchdowns passes in the league.
93. Andres Rascon – Pacheco – LB
Rascon’s speed and strength are just two of the reasons he was one of the top tacklers in the Western Athletic Conference. He finds a way to get into the backfield to put pressure on the passer or stop the run game for little yardage gained by the opponent. He led the league in sacks among juniors and named to all-league second-team defense. The Pacheco Panthers open their season against the Central Valley Hawks on Jan. 15.
92. Timmy Ruiz – Gregori – DB
No matter which side of the ball he is one, Ruiz brings a competitive edge and has a heads-up mindset to make a big play. On defense, he has good vision and plays aggressively blocking punts or going for a loose ball. Ruiz plays excellent man-to-man coverage giving opposing team receivers trouble on every throw. He led all juniors in interceptions within Central California Athletic League (CCAL) and was named second-team defense in the league.
91. Mason Knight – Ripon – LB
The Ripon Chiefs are the defending Division 4-AA state champions and well deservingly so with players such as Mason Knight. He finds a way to get to the ball carrier and shows consistency in putting pressure on the passer. He finished third for tackles per game among juniors in the Trans Valley League and averaged 5.25 tackles per game during their state championship run. Knight also was named all-league second-team defense as an outside linebacker.
