Ben Sheldon, DL, St. Paul Johnson (2024)
Sheldon was the meatgrinder in the middle for the Governors. This kid was a key player in the Governors being so successful in stopping the Minutemen’s rushing back all night, which until the 4th only had about 40 total yards of offense. Sheldon is a nice young prospect that could blossom for the Governors in the coming years. No Tape Available.
Jaheim O’Meally, RB, St. Paul Central (2021)
O’Meally had a tough time getting yards all night until the Minutemen’s final drive, but what I loved about Central was how these kids kept their energy high throughout the duration of the game, O’Meally being one of them. He showed off his solid speed downhill when he ran for a 46 yard sprint at the end of the game to give Central their only touchdown of the game. Also has a pretty good punting leg as well.
Michael Perez, WR, St. Paul Johnson (2021)
Not much film on Perez, but he lit up in the Governors receiving core on back to back catches of 25 yards from Joey Moberg. Perez’s ability to get open in the holes of the Minutemen defense were key in the 1st half rally the Governors put together.
No Tape.
Elijah Knox, QB/K, St. Paul Johnson (2023)
Knox came in the later quarters for Johnson as we showed glimpses of the Governors next man in line at QB1 in the coming years. What stood out about this kid was his arm strength. Threw a sideline pass in the late quarters that I’ve seen veteran starting quarterbacks struggle throwing. When he missed a receiver he missed them long, which will need some developing but this kid may be on our next 2023 rankings when they come out this fall. Also showed a terrific leg on kickoffs last night.
Sir Jackson, ATH, St. Paul Johnson (2021)
Jackson was another two way player that had a solid game for the Governors. Jackson was very effective on the option runs they ran on the Minutemen on quite a few plays. Jackson also put a big block on St. Paul Central punt that went to his teammate Keelahni Cummings who grabbed in the back of the end zone for the Governors.
No Tape.
Julian Hodges, WR, St. Paul Johnson (2021)
Hodges it seemed was grabbing any football that came his way last night for St. Paul Johnson. Kid runs pretty crisp routes and his ability to get open last night almost looked too easy. Hodges served as Joey Moberg’s go to target last night hauling in three of his passing touchdowns.
No Tape.
Liam Luu, CB, St. Paul Central (2021)
Luu, who also pays receiver, didn’t get many touches last night but was one of the Minutemen’s top players defensively. Luu’s tackling ability was what stood out to me as he even late in the game made some great tackles although the game was out of reach.
Big Dog of the Game: Joey Moberg, ATH, St. Paul Johnson (2021)
I said it last night and I will say it again: mark this kid down for MVP in the St. Paul City Conference. Moberg is just one of those players that if you are taking notes in a game, will just blow up your notepad with how versatile he from all over. No typo, brought in 160 tackles and eight interceptions last year for the Governors. Moberg has such a great ability to make playmaker type plays on defense with his terrific vision and football IQ. Moberg may look like a hockey player, but five touchdowns, two interceptions and at least one force fumble last night sure makes me wonder why I don’t see this kid getting much interest at the college level as he would be a terrific combo DB/LB.
