Tanagers Outrun the Panthers
I have only paid close attention to South Dakota football this year, and boy is it an exciting roller coaster! Each week there seems to be a big upset to happen each week and some players to emerge out of nowhere! Friday night proved that fact again as the Tanagers of Vermillion took down the Dakota Valley Panthers. Both teams with very opposite play styles showed two very different formations and philosophies to represent South Dakota football. Check out the break down below:
1st Quarter:
Verm: Charlie Ward 1 yard rush, PAT Good, 7-0 Verm.
Verm: John Lacognata 23 yard rush, PAT Good, 14-0 Verm.
2nd Quarter:
DV: Chayce Montagne 25 yard rush, PAT Good, 14-7 Verm.
Verm: Charlie Ward 9 yard pass to Reece Proefrock, PAT Good, 21-7 Verm.
Verm: Reece Proefrock INT Ret. 14 yards, PAT Good, 28-7 Verm.
3rd Quarter:
Verm: Charlie Ward 9 yard pass to Jack Kratz, PAT Good, 35-7 Verm.
Verm: Connor Saunder INT Ret. 35 yards, PAT Good, 42-7 Verm.
4th Quarter:
Verm: Charlie Ward 46 yard pass to John Lacognata, PAT No Good, 48-7 Verm.
Players Highlighted from Vermillion:
WR/DB- Connor Saunders is the playmaker, caught screens, downfield passes, ran out of the backfield, made tackles, ran an interception back, and made all of his extra points.
QB- Charlie Ward made great decisions, quick and snappy throws, and played great under pressure.
DE/WR- Bryce Stockwell blocked a punt which led to the first score, contained well and ran down a lot of plays from behind.
Offensive Line- Nick Sorensen, Zach Brady, Roz Baylor, Will Fairholm, Nate Fairholm, these guys all did a great job moving the defensive line for the backs and were great in pass protection, couldn’t hand it to just one of them when they all played well.
Players Highlighted from Dakota Valley:
QB/DB- Chayce Montagne ran the ball well all night, made some pretty good plays defensively as well.
LB- Hunter Beving made a good deal of tackles for loss, flew around to the ball all night.
OL/DL- Christian Merchant played well on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
