Smith ran for 102 yards on 25 carries in Holy Spirit’s 18-6 season-opening over St. Joseph.

His breakout game came this past Saturday in a 41-0 shutout of Cedar Creek, when Smith exploded for a school-record 362 rushing yards on 30 carries, with four touchdowns.

The Holy Spirit senior found the end zone on runs of 6, 22, 47 and 48 yards.

Smith is coming off a spectacular junior year, finishing with 1,338 yards on 154 carries with 19 touchdowns. He had five 100-yard rushing performances.

Smith’s top showing as a junior came against Hudson Catholic last November. He totaled 287 yards on 19 carries with six touchdowns. That was about a third of his touchdown total on the season. He was key in the Spartans winning a state title in 2019.

Smith, a Colorado State commit, has an offensive line that creates holes, and he’s been able to forcefully take it to opposing defenses thus far.

Holy Spirit hosts Vineland Friday night.
