That heat has to come from rush ends who can win the one on one battle against offensive tackles. Let’s take a look at some of the best pass rushing ends in the state of Ohio for the 2021 class.
Daryll Peterson 6’3” 240 Akron Hoban
Peterson has all the tools to have an immediate impact at the next level as a pass rusher. He is versatile enough to play any position on the defensive front in passing situations. Daryll has strong hands and can strike then disengage from blockers. When power rushing, he plays with great leverage in driving the opponent into the quarterbacks’ lap. Peterson also has the speed to run opposing quarterbacks down from behind. Committed to Wisconsin, he is destined to be an all-Big Ten defensive lineman.
Hammond Russell Hammond Russell 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL Dublin Coffman | 2021 State OH IV 6’3” 235 Dublin Coffman
Best suited to be a boundary side defensive end, Hammond uses his large wingspan to his advantage as a pass rusher. Quarterbacks at the high school level find it difficult to throw over Hammonds’ long arms. He also has excellent lateral mobility and quickness especially when making inside moves. He absolutely destroys offensive blocking schemes with his penetration when executing line stunts. Look for the University of West Virginia, his school of choice, to beef him up to make him even more dominant.
Myles Mendeszoon Myles Mendeszoon 6'4" | 195 lbs | DL Chardon | 2021 State OH 6’4” 205 Chardon
Don’t let this guy’s weight fool you, he is a physical defensive football player. Myles is very athletic and mobile. He is equally effective whether in a three or four-point stance. Myles has a second gear when he hits the edge, closing quickly on the quarterback. He can flip his hips in pursuit and when retracing. Mendeszoon can keep blockers off his body with one-arm extension, then separates and sheds like a veteran defender. He would be perfect in 3-4 scheme and has made a verbal to Iowa State.
Elijah Hawk Elijah Hawk 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Pickerington North | 2021 State OH 6’6” 240 Pickerington North
Elijah is a true raw talent that has the potential to be a very productive pass rushing end at the collegiate level. He has a great frame and length and displays the ability to run sideline to sideline. Elijah is a little quicker off the ball when moving laterally as opposed to in a straight line, but still is productive in shedding blocks, pursuing to the football, and making tackles in space. Hawk will most likely play in the MAC upon graduation where he can develop into an all-conference player.
Alex Reese Alex Reese 6'4" | 280 lbs | DL Euclid | 2021 State OH 6’4” 280 Euclid
Alex is like a locomotive coming off the ball. He is big and thick but extremely quick and agile for his size. He has a great motor and is a real disrupter to the opposing offense. Alex will probably end up an interior defensive lineman at the next level, but he is an active and aggressive pass rusher. Reese can execute the swim and rip pass rush techniques as good as any high school senior in the country. He is currently committed to Akron University where he will be a real difference maker for the Zips.
