Treasure Coast Showdown Tonight In Vero Beach
While Vero Beach has long dominated the Treasure Coast on the football field, there is indeed proof that the once gigantic gap between the Indians and the Titans is starting to close.
For the past few years, Treasure Coast has been putting a dent into the dynasty that this Vero Beach program had carved out through generations, and while last year saw the Titans come close twice, the Indians continue to reign supreme.
Tonight (7:00), the two schools will once again meet in Vero Beach in one of the top games in Florida this Friday night.
Motivation still continues to be a battle cry for both teams in this Covid year that has already determined the seeding for the state playoffs, which was determined by a blind draw. But that does not temper this match-up at all.
The Titans ride into the game winners of four straight after an impressive 9-2 season a year ago. They returned several football prospects who remember the feeling of losing those close games to Vero Beach last year.
The Titans got to this evening’s match-up with wins over Jensen Beach (42-0), Stuart South Fork (54-14), Fort Pierce Central (28-0) and Fort Pierce John Carroll (57-28).
For veteran head coach Lenny Jankowski and his football team, it is still being about winning, which they have done over 60 straight times in the regular season.
As there are so many impressive prospects on the field for this team, getting to that next level in the playoffs is what this year has been all about.
While streaks are great and they last forever, it’s winning state titles that brings people together for generations.
Vero Beach started 3-0 with wins over Port St. Lucie (35-0), Port St. Lucie Centennial (34-7) and Stuart Martin County (40-3).
A Vero Beach win tonight and everything is still everything in the beautiful Treasure Coast. But if the Titans can finally emerge, waking up Saturday morning is something that people will remember a lifetime.
