As the 2020 Texas high school football season began, four Central Texas running backs for the 2021 class have captured the attention of scouts, coaches, fans and the media.
1: Jack Jerome, Lampasas Badgers
Jerome, 5-foot-6 170 pounds, has helped lead the Badgers to a 3-0 record and #2 ranking in class 4A DI.
He surpassed the 3,000 career rushing yard mark in week one, with 22-carries for 194-yards and 2TDs in a 55-23 victory over Brownwood.
Lampasas is currently 3-0 on the season, after losing two games to Covid. Jerome has 61-carries for 382-yards and 3TDs on the season.
2: Rodrell Freeman, Mart Panthers
Freeman, 6-foot-1 210-pounds, has three state championships under his belt and an opportunity to clinch the 4-peat this season.
The senior 25 of 39 for 460-yards and 5TDs through the air, while rushing for 418-yards on 67-carries for 8TDs. Defensively, Freeman 6-solo tackles, 16-total tackles, 2-sacks, 3-QB Hurries and 1-forced fumble.
Mart is ranked #1 in Class 2A DII and is currently 4-0 on the season with all victories against Class 3A DI opponents.
3: Zach Hrbacek, Troy Trojans
Hrbacek, 5-foot-7 170-pounds, has become a household name over the past three seasons. The senior is a nightmare for coaches not only on offense, but defense as well.
During the first four games of the season, Hrbacek has rushed for 1,026-yards and 21TDs on 144-carries. He has returned two kickoffs this season with an average of 71-yards and has taken one to the house for a touchdown.
Troy is currently 2-2 on the season and will begin play in District 11 3A DI this Friday against the Lorena Leopards.
4: Emmanuel Abdallah, China Spring Cougars
Abdallah, 5-foot-8 180-pounds, has burst onto the scene in 2020 and helped the Cougars work their way up to a #7 ranking in Class 4A DII.
Even though one game this season was canceled due to Covid, the senior has rushed for 850-yards on 92-carries. The Cougars offense is averaging 48-points per game and Abdallah is a key contributor.
China Spring is 4-0 on the season and will open up District 9 4A DII this week against the Jarrell Cougars.
