What’s not to love?
Class 4A No. 10 West Florence’s Region VI game at No. 3 North Myrtle Beach Friday night might as well have been a postseason contest, save for only the fact that both teams are likely headed to South Carolina’s abbreviated playoffs this year.
Still, with so much positioning on the line, there were some fun match-ups to watch all night throughout the Chiefs’s 28-21 victory. The highlight reels are going to get some sauce from this one. Here are the players who made the most of the high-profile game.
BILLY BARLOW, LB, North Myrtle Beach
As far as future college pitchers go, Barlow is one heck of a linebacker. Against the Knights, the senior had four solo tackles and got in on another five tandem jobs. He was also credited with two sacks and a couple of the biggest sticks on the evening.
GEORGE FLOYD, QB, WEST FLORENCE
Another likely future college baseball player, Floyd showed some big-time toughness throughout the night, one in which he was sacked four times and still managed some great production. He finished with 62 yards rushing and another 61 and a touchdown passing.
NYKE JOHNSON, CB/RB, WEST FLORENCE
North Myrtle Beach continually went away from Johnson through the air, but the Virginia Tech commitment made his presence felt with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown late in the second quarter to put the Knights on the board.
NYLIEK LIVINGSTON, RB, NORTH MYRTLE BEACH
All the first-year starter has done this year is rush for 100-yard game after 100-yard game, and that continued against West Florence. Livingston ended with 145 yards on 22 carries, pushing his season tally to 665 yards in five games – all of which have included reaching the century mark.
XAVIER ANDERSON, WR, NORTH MYRTLE BEACH
The biggest individual performance of the night came from Anderson. After coming into the game with six receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown, the six-foot-2, 180-pound receiver kicked it up a notch with three second-quarter receptions for 180 yards and three scores. In each, he shot right past defenders and was able to cruise into the end zone.
