Olathe North vs Olathe Northwest
The Olathe North Eagles have had a very successful season so far as they are currently ranked #2 in 6A and are 5-1 with their only loss coming to undefeated, #1 ranked Lawrence High last week 21-20 in a possible future state final matchup. The Olathe Northwest Ravens are 2-2 but have won the last two and have built up a lot of momentum going into Friday night’s game against 6A powerhouse Olathe North. Olathe North has averaged 32.9 points per game and have given up just 10.2 points. Olathe Northwest have averaged 23 points per game and have averaged 35.5 in their victories the last two weeks against Shawnee Mission West and Olathe South. Defensively, they have given up 12 points per game. With two teams that are so balanced on both sides of the ball, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
Derby vs Maize South
The 3-2 defending 6A state champion Derby Panthers will play the 4-2 Maize Mavericks on Friday night. The Mavericks have looked great this year with their two losses coming by a combined 5 points. They have averaged 39.9 points per game and defensively have given up 18.7 points per game. The Panthers lost a close one last week to Maize 36-35 but have scored at least 31 points in each of the last 4 games bringing their average to 35 points per game. Defensively, they have given up 29.2 points per game but have given up 25.2 points in their last 4 games. With two high powered offenses, this should definitely be a fun game to watch.
Wichita West vs Wichita East
This week, the 3-2 Wichita West Pioneers play the 4-1 Wichita East Aces in a battle between two great rivals from Wichita. Wichita East have scored 80 or more points twice this year against Wichita North and Wichita Northeast and are balanced with a great defense as well as they have only given up 7.2 points per game. Wichita West has won three straight games and have scored at least 29 points in each of their three wins. They have given up on average 17 points per game but have only given up 5 points per game in the last three weeks showing great resiliency after two losses to start the year.
Gardner Edgerton vs Shawnee Mission West
The 3-2 Gardner-Edgerton Trailblazers will play the 2-3 Shawnee Mission West Vikings in the season finale on Friday where both teams look to finish the 2020 season on a high note. Gardner-Edgerton has averaged 29.8 points per game with an impressive victory over 5A powerhouse and defending state champion Mill Valley in Week 3 averaging 36.3 points in their victories. Shawnee Mission West are coming off a big victory over Shawnee Mission North and look to finish the season at .500.
Lawrence vs Lawrence Free State
The undefeated and #1 ranked 6-0 Lions of Lawrence High play their cross town rival Free State Firebirds who are looking for their first win. In a game that is among the biggest rivalries in eastern Kansas, Lawrence looks to finish the regular season undefeated for the first time since 2015 and Free State is looking to defeat their biggest rival and finish the season with a huge win spoiling a potentially undefeated regular season. Lawrence has been at the top of the rankings all year with the awesome play of RB Devin Neal Devin Neal 5'11" | 210 lbs | RB Lawrence | 2021 State KS and QB Jackson Dooley. Lawrence has averaged 41.33 points per game while giving up 16 points per game. Free State has had in all likelihood the toughest schedule in the state as they have had to play the outstanding teams of De Soto, Olathe North and now Lawrence all on the road so their record is not an accurate indicator of the talent that they have.
