North Tama brought back members of its 2010 state championship football team this past Friday night.
All those who made the trip were given a great opportunity to watch Grundy Center’s Zach Opheim light up the scoreboard.
The senior running back needed just 12 carries to rack up 390 yards and score four touchdowns, as the Spartans raced out to a 40-0 lead at the half.
Opheim’s yardage total now ranks second in the state for a single-game this season behind only Wyatt HunterWyattHunter5'11" | RBGrinnell | 2021IA of Grinnell, who went for 453.
During the game, Opheim went over 1,000 yards for the year, sitting at 1,010 with 14 touchdowns. He is averaging over 11 yards per carry and also has two receptions for 69 yards - scoring on both of those touches.
As a junior, he ran for 1,461 yards with 18 touchdowns to help Grundy Center go 11-2 and reach the Class A state championship game.
Opheim holds an offer from Morningside to continue his playing career. With his big-play ability, he would be a perfect weapon in the Morningside offensive attack.
