There are the private powerhouses like St. Peter’s Prep and Bergen Catholic, and then you have a ton of public teams that produce on a yearly basis. There have been many impact players through six weeks of the regular season. Let’s take a look at 10 impact players in the SFC heading into Week 7.
Dario Bryant, Cedar Grove: Bryant has put up some major numbers through Cedar Grove’s 5-1 start. Bryant has thrown for 1,488 yards and 17 touchdowns to seven interceptions. He has also run for two scores. Bryant, outside of a tough loss to Weequahic, has been strong. He completed 28-of-40 passes for 431 yards and five TDs in a win over Scotch Plains-Fanwood earlier this season. Bryant has a quick release and he throws a good deep ball. He puts confidence in his receivers to go up and make plays, and he can scramble when in trouble in the pocket.
Chris Evans, Parsippany Hills: Evans has been effective as a transfer quarterback for Parsippany Hills. The Viking senior has thrown for 1,111 yards and 14 touchdowns to three interceptions. Outside of a tough showing against state-ranked Woodbridge, Evans has been strong in the pocket. He threw just two incomplete passes out of 19 in the team’s most recent game against Chatham. Evans tossed four TDs in a win over Montville earlier in the year. Parsippany Hills is 5-1 on the season.
Hunter Van Zant, Boonton: Van Zant has been unstoppable for the Bombers in their 6-0 start. He leads the SFC with 1,498 yards and 19 touchdowns, reaching 200-plus yards in four of the team’s six games, with a season-high 364 yards coming this past week against Parsippany. Van Zant has run in four TDs apiece in wins over Parsippany, Rutherford, Wallkill Valley and Whippany Park, and three TDs in a victory over North Warren. The Boonton junior also has an interception defensively. Van Zant has powered his way to success, and he has been a focal point of Boonton’s ground-and-pound style of play.
Audric Estime Audric Estime 6'1" | RB St. Joe's Montvale | 2021 State NJ , St. Joseph (Mont.): Estime has lived up to his hype for St. Joseph with 1,325 yards and 17 TDs. The Michigan State commit has been unstoppable for every opponent this year. Most recently, Estime powered his way to 309 yards rushing on 24 carries with three TDs. He looks like a college-level back in high school with his build, and he’s great at following his blockers up front and finding holes.
Montez Boswell, Orange: Boswell has impressed for Orange through six games. He has run for 894 yards and 14 TDs on 111 carries. He has exceeded 100 yards in every game, and his season-high is 205. Boswell’s speed won’t blow you away, but his power and his strength in his runs will. He’s an extremely tough player to bring down, and it often takes the efforts of multiple defenders.
Anthony Bilotta, Cedar Grove: Bilotta leads the SFC with 46 receptions for 677 yards and eight TDs. He is a great downfield threat for Bryant, and he’s reached 100-plus receiving yards twice. He had an incredible showing against Scotch Plains-Fanwood, where he caught 13 passes for 234 yards and three TDs. He has at least one receiving score in the last four games.
AJ McKay, Mount Olive: McKay is second in the conference with 530 receiving yards to go with four scores and 35 receptions. McKay has been reliable for Mount Olive in its 5-1 start. His most impressive game came against Morris Knolls, where he finished with nine receptions for 206 yards and two TDs.
Harry Boland, Caldwell: Boland leads the SFC in tackles with 92. He has been incredible with his ball pursuit. He has two forced fumbles and has recorded 12 or more tackles in every game this season, including 19 most recently against Cedar Grove.
Anthony Henriquez Anthony Henriquez 5'10" | LB Hoboken | 2021 State NJ , Hoboken: Henriquez has been a nightmare for opposing offenses. While he has been just as effective on offense with 562 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, what the Hoboken star is able to do on defense is special. He is second in the conference with 90.5 tackles, including 21 against Weequahic. He has six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Owen Murphy, West Orange: Murphy has been effective in the kicking game for West Orange. He is 29-for-29 on extra points, and he connected on a 31-yard field goal against East Orange in a rivalry matchup. Murphy has gone 7-for-7 and 8-for-8 on PATs in a pair of games.
