There has been no better place to look for this than in the West Jersey Football League, a nearly 100 high school super-conference in Central and South Jersey.
As part of a multi-part series, Prep Redzone takes a closer look at some junior wide receivers in the WJFL to keep your eyes on moving forward.
Everaldo Servil, Princeton: Servil has gone under the radar in recruiting, but he has the making of an absolute superstar. He looks comfortable running a plethora of routes, and arguably his best is probably either the fly or post route. The game just seems to come easy to Servil, who has great awareness around him to pull down catches and gain large bundles of yards. He’s been a reliable target for Princeton and you should expect his stock to rise this offseason.
Nolan LaRocca, Kingsway: LaRocca offers a lot to the table playing at Kingsway. He’s a lethal combination of strength and speed that isn’t found conventionally anywhere. He also offers the option of running jet sweeps to the outside, so he’s not a one dimensional player. He’s a receiver that can do more, and that’s extremely vital. LaRocca’s a trusted target on this Kingsway team and there will be plenty more passes thrown his way come 2021.
Quamir Land, Washington Township: Land is already at an ideal height and build for a receiver, standing 6-2 currently. There really is a lot to like about this kid, starting with his closeout speed on the outside. It’s not even a contest when he’s going up for a 50/50 ball with a defender. Land is going to come down with the ball. He’s stronger and just plays a more physical game of football. On corner, post & fly routes, he shines brightest.
Ty Bartrum, Cherokee: Bartrum currently has 4.7 speed and that’s only going to get better. This kid can fly and he averaged nearly 9 yards per catch this season with a touchdown to his name. He currently stands at 6-1 and is a very strong, physical player on the field. Bartrum can lay out for some spectacular catches and he looks very comfortable running routes for the Chiefs. His game seems to be centered around out routes and slant routes, but he’s a sneaky deep threat that will burn defenses for some big gains.
Jymere Melendez, St. Joseph Academy: Melendez has deep threat weapon written all over him and at 5’8”, he might catch some by surprise, but this kid can fly on the field. Not only that, but he’s creative with the ball and makes moves to create more space for those few extra yards after the catch. His success on the defensive side of the ball in the secondary definitely has rubbed off on his offense and he’s going to be a future deep threat for St. Joseph.
