When Trinity Christian and head coach Verlon Dorminey moved back to 3A last year, it seemed that it was a given that the Conquerors would be the team that would represent the class in the north. It never worked out that way.

The schedule was easily the toughest in the state – and by the time the playoffs rolled around, this team didn’t have enough.

The team that did have plenty in the tank was Florida High.This program made it all the way to the 3A finals against Chaminade-Madonna, before losing to the three time defending state champs.

Tonight (7:30), the two programs that figured to be in this position when the season started, will meet with everything at stake. Both teams have been more than impressive.

After losing to Jacksonville Bolles (36-12) to start the season, the Conquerors went on a roll – with wins against Lake City Columbia (28-21), Jacksonville North Florida Educational Institute (42-6), Jacksonville Mandarin (42-6), Plantation American Heritage (3-0), Jacksonville Lee (14-6), Jacksonville Raines (21-0), Jacksonville Ribault (29-6), Baldwin (20-3) and Jacksonville Episcopal (35-0).
