Continue ReadingGeorgia Bulldog fans should be very excited about the future of their team at quarterback after seeing 2021 five-star QB Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA throw for 7 touchdowns in a big region win on Friday night.
The 6-foot-3 205-pounder isn’t 100% as he’s dealing with a slight knee injury, but his arm talent was on full display. He got the ball out quick to his receivers, and he also showed his arm strength as he pushed the ball downfield with ease.
Vandagriff threw for 5 TDs in the first half, and that’s with Prince Avenue not having the ball very much. Athens Christian ran the ball effectively all night and managed the clock well on offense, but Vandagriff and the high-powered Prince Avenue offense was just too much. The Wolverines scored quickly and often, with their receivers running wild all throughout the 2nd quarter.
Vandagriff ended the night going 15/21 for 478 yards and 7 total touchdowns. He did throw a bad interception in the red-zone in the first half, but it was all touchdowns for Prince Avenue other than that. Senior receiver Zac Dyer Zac Dyer 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA also had a career game, scoring three touchdowns and picking up 181 yards on just 5 receptions. He got open consistently and was excellent with the ball in his hands.
Senior receiver Logan Johnson Logan Johnson 5'6" | 155 lbs | WR Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 GA , a Troy commitment, also had a big game. The speedy playmaker zig-zagged his way to a long 49-yard TD right before the half to extend the Wolverines’ big lead.
Vandagriff isn’t perfect, but he showed why he’s considered one of the top QB prospects in the country. He’s got good size already, but his arm talent is extremely rare. He has a quick release, he has a high football IQ, he showed nice pocket presence, and of course the ability to scramble and make plays with his feet.
If there’s one bright spot for Athens Christian, it was the play of their running back Johne’ss Davis. The powerful, bruising back looked like the best player on the field in the first half, rushing for 184 yards on just 12 first half carries. He’s battled through two ACL tears in his career, but injured his lower back right before halftime and didn’t come back into the game.
When he’s healthy, Davis is one of the best backs in the region. He’s big, powerful, and faster than you’d think for someone his size. He has great lower body strength and bounced off tackles with ease all night.
