All of these guys have made a name for themselves making big plays and who I believe can only get better. The names listed are guys who have shown they are not afraid of the big moment and who have delivered when their names have been called upon. Nothing but great things are expected from these athletes for the next couple years and watching them develop as players will be a sight to see.
Tanner Murray QB – JR, Langham Creek – Murray is a quick striking, dual threat quarterback who has the potential to be a top star as long as he continues to develop. His ability to flip his hips into throws as well as step into throws are extraordinary. He has a good whip on throws on the run, shows good accuracy on the quick throws and has fantastic chemistry with his top target, Jaquaize Pettaway. Murray’s ability to run also adds to his arsenal. He shows great vision in his ability to find the open lanes and well as his reads on when to pull. On the season, Murray is second in the district in passing yards with 1,310 and second in passing yards per game with 187. He has also ran the ball for 421 yards on the season and has accounted for 10 total touchdowns. I am excited to see how his game continues to grow into next season. I believe he will be a top name next year and if he continues to put in the work, we will see the offers pour in.
Cameron King RB – JR, Cypress Park – In a backfield filled with talent, King has done a great job this year showcasing his skill and proving to be a top rusher in the district. He shows great vision, quickness, and speed in his runs. It is very easy to lose sight of him in the backfield due to his quickness. Jet sweeps, counters, and reverses are where he makes a name for himself. King also possesses return skills. A very good punt returner who can put you in great field position in a flash. On the year, King is third in rushing yards in the district behind his two teammates. He is also third in district in rushing touchdowns with 11, as well as third in yards per game, averaging 95.4. With the entire backfield of Cypress Park being underclassmen, it may be difficult for King to take a major leap his senior year, but I believe it is possible for him to do so. He will be one to keep an eye on for the future.
Jaquaize Pettaway WR – SO, Langham Creek – One thing you have to know about this guy. When he touches the ball, good things happen. Just get him the ball. As a sophomore, Pettaway is currently the district leader in receiving yards with 847, tied first in receptions with 47, tied first in receiving touchdowns with 7, and is the leader in receiving yards per game with 121. He’s excitement on the field and all eyes are on 11. Skinny post and slants are turned into touchdowns. Pettaway’s speed separates him from the rest. He’s a smooth runner and a reliable target. Pettaway will be a top name in the state in the future and has plenty of time to continue to work on his craft. Please remember the name.
Darnell Green RB – SO, Cypress Lakes – Green has the ability to make people miss in the phone booth. Excellent one on one abilities and can make you look foolish. He shows excellent vision and burst on his runs. Zone and stretch runs seem to be his bread and butter. His ability to get to the outside and outrun the opponent is something spectacular, especially for a player who is a sophomore. I believe Green can step into the feature back role when his time comes and he will be a name to watch out for. Very exciting player to watch and rarely disappoints when he touches the ball. Green is fifth in the district in rushing yards as a sophomore. His growth as a player will be something to watch.
