Coming off of an Oregon Class 6A State Championship run in ’’19, Rams Head Coach Steve Pyne looks to reload in 20-2021 and continue as one of the top programs in the state. Here is my list of standout players in the 2021 and 2022 class.
Emar’rion Winston Emar’rion Winston 6'3" | 245 lbs | DL Central Catholic | 2022 State OR – Junior -Outside Linebacker/ Defensive End/ Tight End- 6’3 220 lbs. Class of 2022.
Winston is one of the top prospects in Oregon as a Junior. He is already committed to the University of Oregon, where his brother Lamar graduated and played linebacker from 2016-2020. Versatile athlete who will start at the FBS level. Starts on both sides of the ball and excels each way. Projects to be an Outside Linebacker in college.
Jordan King Jordan King 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Central Catholic | 2022 State OR – Junior- Wide Receiver/ Defensive End- 6’4 200 lbs. Class of 2022
Jordan is a dynamic athlete who has a very high ceiling to develop as a top prospect. Multiple sport athlete who works hard in the program and could fit into almost any coaching system. Highly coachable. Has been in contact with Central Michigan but currently has no scholarship offers. Explosive athleticism, feet, and hands. Great route runner, fast in between cuts. Can go up and get 50/50 balls with his amazing balls skills. Projects to be a Wide Receiver at the FBS level or FCS level. Great frame to develop his size and strength. Hard worker and solid playmaker. Excellent in space.
Zach Grisham- Junior- Tailback/Hybrid Linebacker Inside and Outside. 5’10 185 lbs. Class of 2022
Zach is an extremely talented, hard-working player who excels on both sides of the ball. He has a high upside to develop into a solid playmaker in college. Versatile skill set overall and is highly coachable. Will adapt to any coaching system because of his high coachability. Projects to be a Military Academy player at Army, Navy, or Air Force. Ivy league. Perhaps low FBS- High FCS. Good ball skills, high football IQ, and runs well. Quick twitch movement in his legs and hips. Solid hands.
Kaden Schell Kaden Schell 6'4" | 250 lbs | DL Central Catholic | 2022 State OR – Junior-Offensive Tackle/ Defensive End- 6’3 225 lbs. Class of ’2022
Kaden has the body frame and size to develop into a physical specimen. He is a tough, well put together player who has major upside on the defensive side of the ball. Athletic, smart, and hard-working. Has fluid hip movement, great hands, and gets off the snap fast with an explosion. Could play stand up end/ outside linebacker in college, where I project him to play in the group of five FBS or high FCS level.
Xavier Simpson Xavier Simpson 5'9" | 160 lbs | ATH Central Catholic | 2022 State OR – Junior- Running back/ Slot Receiver.5’9 165 lbs.- Class of 2022.
Simpson can fly. A very fast and explosive ball carrier who will get to the next level with an explosion. Has the extra gear to outrun defenders. Solid special teams returner. Can handle getting hit, but limited in running between the tackles.Multisport athlete who runs track. Projects to be a low FBS or High FCS prospect offensively. Good route running and fast enough to beat man coverage consistently.
Stryder Todd-Fields- Junior- Wide Receiver/Cornerback- 5’10 170 lbs. Class of 2022.
An above-average prospect, Todd- Fields is developing as a football player and has blossomed into a dynamic playmaker. Good frame, well built, and plays fast. Good route runner who will continue to grow as a player with more experience and hard work. High upside, and very coachable. Excels in space and has excellent foot movement, . Very fast and speedy playmaker. Projects to be an NAIA, Junior College, or FCS prospect right away. With work, could move into the FBS range prospectively.
Solon Sanders- Junior -Outside Linebacker/ Tight End- 6’3-200 lbs. Class of 2022.
Sanders is a big body game-breaker who is extremely gifted athletically. He is a well-accomplished track star, who can run and jump through the ceiling. The major upside to develop as a football player. Needs work in the classroom to become an FBS prospect and projects to go to Junior College or NAIA to begin his schooling. A hard worker who is a matchup nightmare against whoever is defending or blocking him.
Ellis Bynum- Junior- Safety/ Inside Linebacker/ Running Back. 5’10 185 lbs. Class of 2023
Bynum is a consistent, steady working, tough-nosed player. Excels on the defensive side of the ball. Expected to be highly productive and take on a bigger role on the team moving ahead. Good speed and can produce on both sides of the ball. A smart and highly coachable prospect who is looking to play for an HBCU in college.
Gavin Jackson-Junior- Running back- Inside/outside linebacker.5’10 185 lbs.. Class of 2023
Productive, and blessed with top-notch field vision, Jackson is the primary ball carrier in the Rams backfield. Quick and speedy back who can handle over 20 carries a game. Great foot movement allows him to get upfield in a hurry. Monster in space. Can eat up yards on long drives. Needs work in the classroom to avoid starting college at the JUCO level. With hard work and dedication, could play FBS/FCS ball. Solid upside.
Myale Jones- Junior-Offensive Line/ Defensive Line. 6’5 320 lbs. Class of 2022
Jones has the size and potential to become a top prospect. Can move extremely well with his hips and feet. Still, in the beginning, stage of his development, he has a large upside to grow as a football player. With work, could become an FBS/FCS prospect. Good hands and quick off the snap.
Luca Rodarte- Junior Long snapper- 5’11 215. Class of 2022.
Luca is a very hard working special teamer. Focuses on short and long snapping. Athletic.
- Joe Merlino- Sophomore- Offensive Line/ Defensive Line- 6’3 245 lbs.- Class of 2023
Joe is a second-generation athlete who has a passion and love for the game. His mother was an athlete at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. High football IQ and game knowledge. Moves fluid with his big frame, great foot movement. Hands are fast and reflexive. High upside leader who can play FBS/FCS level football.
Riley Williams- Sophomore- Quarterback/ Tight End/ Wide Receiver- 6’6 225 lbs. Class of 2023
Williams is maybe the most fascinating prospect on this list. He is a dynamic playmaker at the QB position and has FBS written all over him. Already has the pro size, and his upside is enormous. Great arm strength and accuracy, and with work and more conditioning, could continue to gain strength in his body frame. Still early in his development, the sky is the limit for Riley. Projects to be a top FBS prospect. Athletic, smart, and humble. Tends to move well for a bigger pocket passer.
Amari Abraham- Sophomore- Wide Receiver/ Outside linebacker-6’2 185 lbs. Class of 2023
Athletic and smart player, Abraham is a quick receiver who can play on the outside and eat up smaller defenders. Goes up and gets the ball well with good ball skills. Moves fluid in his assignments and plays hard. Amari will be a key piece of Coach Pyne’s offense moving forward. Great hand and foot movement and a solid route runner. Cuts and moves stern out of his position. Projects to be an NAIA/Division2-3/ FCS receiver or linebacker/safety. With more work and on-field production, Abraham could develop into an FBS prospect.
Solomon McDaniel- Sophomore- 5’9 210 lbs- Inside Linebacker!/ Running Back. Class of 2023
McDaniel is simply a really good football player. Does not possess the height of some of his teammates, but makes up for in heart, dedication, and instinct. Natural defender at linebacker who could move to safety in college. Quick foot and hip movement and fast on the ball. Instinctual at diagnosing plays at the line of scrimmage.
