1. Jordan Hornbeak Jordan Hornbeak 6'0" | 190 lbs | RB San Joaquin Memorial | 2021 State CA , San Joaquin Memorial, 2021, 6’0” 195 lbs.
Hornbeak exploded on the recruiting scene during the 2019 season after transferring to Memorial HS from Chowchilla HS. Since then, he has collected offers from much of the PAC12 and Mountain West before committing to hometown Fresno State in July. He is a physical, downhill back with quick one cut ability and top end speed to take it the distance. Strong runner that runs through arm tackles with good balance and pad level. Shows good vision and patience with the ability to find a lane and attack it. Expect him to put up big numbers for central valley powerhouse San Joaquin Memorial.
2. Ian Jernagin Ian Jernagin 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB Garces Memorial | 2022 State CA , Garces Memorial, 2022, 5’10” 200 lbs.
Jernagin is a good all-around back with plus size and a strong frame at 5’10” 200 lbs. After transferring to Garces Memorial and not playing in 2019, Broderick has performed well at camps and showcases this offseason leading to a recent offer from Colorado in addition to Arizona and Nevada. As a ball carrier, he is a downhill runner with plus vision and balance. He shows quick lateral agility and change of direction to avoid tacklers but also shows good power to run through contact. Expect him to have a big season on a loaded Garces Memorial team and for his recruiting stock to continue to rise.
3. Lonnie Wessel, Golden Valley, 2021, 6’1” 220 lbs.
One of the top players in Golden Valley history and one of the best two-way players in the Central Section. In 2019, he was the third leading rusher with just over 2,000 yards and 28 touchdowns. Strong frame at 6’1” 220 lbs. with deceptive speed and short area acceleration. Runs well behind his pads with good leverage and leg drive to run through contact and break tackles. Plays a physical brand of football that is tough and intense on both sides of the ball. Shows good versatility with his ability to lead block, pass block, and catch balls out of the backfield. Projects as a LB at the next level but is one of the top RB’s in the section.
4. Dominic Martinez, Orosi, 2021
Led the section in rushing in 2019 with almost 2,300 yards and 31 touchdowns averaging 163 yards per game. Shows quick burst and acceleration as a ball carrier. He’s a plus athlete that is twitchy with quick feet and cut ability. Displays good balance as a runner with his ability to square his shoulders get square and run through contact. Plus vision and instincts with the ball in his hands, does a good job reading his blocks and making quick clean cuts in response. Shows good confident hands both out of the backfield and in the slot, tracks and adjusts well to the ball at all three depths.
5. Carlos Moreno, Strathmore, 2022, 5’10” 165 lbs.
As a sophomore in 2019, he ranked sixth in the section in rushing with 1750 yards and 20 touchdowns. He’s explosive with the ball in his hands with his speed, quickness, and acceleration. He’s a downhill back that shows good lateral agility, change of direction, and elusiveness in the open field weaving through defenders. Good top end and breakaway speed to breakthrough the second level and finish runs in the endzone. He’s a strong all around back with great potential and upside as he continues to develop.
