Here’s a look at the top offensive players from the district:
Jakob Holcomb, Waukee (2021)
A talented quarterback, Jakob Holcomb led the Waukee offense this past year, throwing for 1,306 yards with 15 touchdowns and just two interceptions on 192 attempts. He completed almost 53 percent of his passes and added four rushing scores.
Holcomb has a nice, high release point with his throws. The ball really comes out of his hand quickly. Holcomb displays an ability to make plays happen with his feet as well.
Alexander Linquist, Waukee (2021)
A true dual-threat out of the backfield, Waukee senior Alexander Linquist ran for 1,483 yards and scored seven touchdowns this year on the ground for the Warriors, averaging over five yards per carry. He also caught 11 passes for another 60 yards.
Lindquist is extremely quick and shifty. He’s the type of runner who, when instructed to hit a certain hole, does just that and goes. The first tackler is hardly ever the guy that brings him down.
Aaron Smith Aaron Smith 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Waukee | 2021 State IA , Waukee (2021)
How about these for numbers. Aaron Smith Aaron Smith 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Waukee | 2021 State IA carried the ball 24 times for 337 yards and six scores, averaging 14 yards per rush for Waukee. All you need to do is get Smith in open space and he makes things happen. High-end speed, quickness, versatility and tremendous hands all make him a top prospect.
Carter Schulte, Waterloo West (2021)
With nearly 1,900 yards passing and 16 touchdowns, Carter Schulte had himself quite the senior season. The Waterloo West QB completed 50 percent of his passes, adding 217 yards and three scores on the ground.
Schulte is excellent under pressure, showing a strong arm and ability to get the ball down the field. He does a nice job of hitting his receivers in motion, allowing for big plays.
Tay Norman, Waterloo West (2021)
One of the top receivers in the state, Tay Norman finished this year with 852 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 15.5 yards per catch, hauling in 55 receptions in all.
Norman is great at getting separation at the line of scrimmage, which allows him to use his speed and body to make plays. He does a tremendous job of making the difficult catch look easy.
