Defensive Dream: Pipestone vs. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial
On a cold, Wednesday night the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Knights traveled to Pipestone to take on the Arrows in a Section 3AA matchup and season finale. The Knights (4-1) were the top seed in the section, while the Arrows (0-4) were fourth in the rankings. LCWM is a power, ground and pound football, nothing flashy, just hard-nosed running. Pipestone opened up in a spread offense and tried to out-quick the Knights on the perimeter. Here’s the game summary below:
1st Quarter:
LCWM: Camden Ludeman 54 yard rush, PAT Good, 7-0 LCWM.
PAS: Kellan Johnson 3 yard rush, 2-point Good, 8-7 PAS
As you can see all the scoring came within the 1st Quarter. The rest of the game was which defense could hold strong enough to win the game. Pipestone had two takeaways in the first half, LCWM matched them in the second half with two of their own. Neither team converted a third down in the second half, also neither team really even got into the opponents side of the field until the Knights attempted a 37 yard field goal in the 4th Quarter, but came up short.
Pipestone (1-4) was seeded 3rd in the section and received a first round bye (St. James opted out of the playoffs), and will play at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (3-3) on Saturday, November 21st. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (4-2) received the 4th seed and will host Windom on Tuesday, November 17th.
