- DL Mariere Omonode- West Lafayette
The 6’1″ 245 pound defensive lineman was an absolute beast on the field for West Lafayette this year. It didn’t matter if offenses were running or passing the ball, the place you were most likely to find Mr. Omonode was in the opposing teams backfield. With 23 Tackles for loss, 11 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 10 QB hurries… His stats were head turning. He also had 67 tackles on the season, which is a ton for a defensive lineman, and shows you how disruptive he was play in and play out. When you turn on the film, you see a player that has a relentless motor, is very explosive, and plays with his hands. You cannot help but see a little Aaron Donald in his style of play, and I don’t throw around that term loosely. His film is really impressive! It is the type of film that you can watch over and over, because you can see his passion for the game come through the screen. He has a D1 skill-set without question, so his growth should determine his level of recruitment. I can tell you this though… If his film is any indication of the type of player he is capable of growing into, Mariere is a kid that will be successful wherever he ends up at the next level!
- RB Travon Hegler- Lawrence North
When you are on a team that has a pair of national level recruits, sometimes you can fly under the radar in comparison to them. With that being said, Hegler is a name that opposing defensive coordinators were well aware of. The hard running Jr has a great combo of balance, burst, and speed. He showed capable of getting yards the hard way (in between the tackles), but also showed the speed to take it the distance. He didn’t get as many carries as he may have had on a less talented team, but he made the most of the carries he had while averaging 7.8 yards per carry. Travon had 130 total carries for 1,020 yards / 7 TD’s, and a long run of 80 yards on the season. Lawrence North looks to be in good hands with the combo of Heller’s rushing ability and their big play receiver Omar Cooper Omar Cooper 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Lawrence North | 2022 State IN . While he does not have any offers that I am aware of right now, Travon Hegler is a prospect that will surely be on D1 coaches radars.
- OL Mason Cook- Franklin Central
Franklin Central had a re-building year this season, but the performance of their 6’3″ 270 pound OL, Mason Cook, gives a lot of hope for the future. The Jr has a solid build, plays with great pad level, has a strong punch, and plays with great leverage. When evaluating OL prospects for the college level, coaches look for players that are twitched up, can bend, and have great lateral movement… Cook checks all of those boxes. He is explosive off the ball, and flashes the ability to impose his will on defenders. He plays OT at the HS, but will most likely kick inside to OG at the college level, and that is where I see him getting his highest level of recruitment. Mason Cook is a name to know, and another one that will be getting plenty of evaluations by college coaches in the coming year.
- ATH Myles Johnson- New Albany
Myles Johnson is the definition of an “Athlete” prospect, as he could slot at multiple positions in college. He was a standout on both offense and defense for New Albany, and has the skill-set to contribute in every phase of the game. Listed at 6′ 191, he possesses the size and athleticism to develop into a D1 recruit, and had the stats to back it up. On offense, Johnson ran the ball 184 times for 1378 yards / 12 TD’s, went for over 100 yards rushing in 7 games, and had two extremely explosive carries of 78 & 80 yards. As an LB on defense he is listed as having 34 total tackles according to MaxPreps, but when you turn on the film you see a disruptive player that looked even more productive than that stat line would indicate. This is a player that will continue to grow and his skill-set will continue to evolve, so he is a player that has the ability to be a “name” player out of Indiana in the coming year. I believe he is just scratching the surface of his potential, and he has some great football in front of him!
- QB/ATH Jordan Landkrohn- Calumet Christian
The 6’2″ 180 pound Jr did just about everything but drive the team bus for Calumet Christian this season, and we are still waiting for confirmation that he didn’t do that as well. The multi-sport athlete brought multiple talents to the stat sheet, as he made plays on offense, defense, and special teams. He didn’t just contribute in every phase of the game… He was a standout in every phase of the game! The dual threat QB passed for 1,253 yards and 14 TD’s, while rushing for 915 yards and 18 TD’s. He also went for over 100 all purpose yards in every game he played in this season. If the offensive stats weren’t impressive enough, he registered 39 tackles and 7 INT’s on defense, with 3 of those INT’s being returned for TD’s. Landkrohn also stood out as a return man and even added a couple punts to his resume as well. When you turn on the film you see a player with great field vision, size, athleticism, and the type of next level instincts that are sure to catch college coaches eyes. I have heard he is quite the basketball player as well, so I am not sure if football will be the route he chooses in college. But, whether it is on the hardwood or the football field, Jordan Landkrohn is sure to have plenty of suitors at the college level.
