There are quarterbacks that are restricted by the offensive systems they play in. Some Kansas athletes play quarterback just because there is not a better athlete on the team.
For whatever reason, these Kansas quarterbacks have yet to receive college offers, but each would like to extend his playing career past high school.
Myles Thompson, 6’7”, 245, Hutchinson – Forget the position because Thompson is a football player. Hutchinson is 8-1 on the season and its offense clicks because Thompson runs it. He is big for a quarterback and plays in an offense that does not throw the ball a ton. He is however having a very productive season. During the regular season, he had nine rushing and six passing touchdowns. He has completed more than fifty percent of his pass attempts. The bottom line is Thompson is worthy of a college football offer.
Dylan Rinker, 6’9”, 285, McPherson – Rinker is a passing quarterback. He has thrown for almost 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns for the Bullpups. He has quick feet, an accurate arm, and understands how to run an offense. McPherson runs a three-wideout set with no offensive huddle. He is very patient with his play callers and understands that scheme. Rinker is a hard worker in the classroom as well as he currently has a 3.9 GPA.
Isaac Stanton, 6’1”, 185, Basehor-Linwood— Stanton is among the Kansas passing leaders having thrown for more than 2,200 passing yards. He has thrown for 29 touchdowns. He is coming off a 300-yard passing game in the opening round of the state playoffs. The Bobcats run a one-back offense and Stanton distributes the ball well among his many options. He has a 3.7 current GPA.
Ethan Houk Ethan Houk 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Parsons | 2021 State KS , 6’1”, 190, Parsons – The season for the Parsons Vikings ended in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. However, senior quarterback Ethan Houk Ethan Houk 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Parsons | 2021 State KS had a productive season for the Vikings. Houk threw for 2,005 yards and completed 23 touchdown passes. He has a big arm and has benefited from playing in a pass-first offense at Parsons. He has had conversations with college coaches but has yet to receive an official offer.
Blake Poje, 6’0”, 150, Tonganoxie – Poje has led the Chieftains to an 8-1 start and Tonganoxie will host Lansing in the Regional Round on November 7. The senior quarterback has thrown for more than 1,200 yards and 17 touchdowns. Poje steps into his throws well and also can throw on the run. He also plays with a 2,000-yard rusher, so his pass attempts are not as high as other state quarterbacks. Poje would be a solid JUCO quarterback.
