It was an equally balanced matchup with the Flyers’ power running offense against the Jr. Bilikins’ heavy passing offense. The two talented teams were throwing haymakers at each other all game. The Jr. Bills fought hard, but the Flyers were more esurient and ran away with it.
The Flyers were down 21-14 at the end of the first half. They produced a spark in the second and came back to seal the deal 21-28.
Here are the standout players of the game.
RB Logan Kopp Logan Kopp 6'1" | 200 lbs | LB Lindbergh | 2021 State MO Sr. Running like a mad man, Kopp was the backbone of Lindbergh’s offense. The power back had a beast mode mentality throughout the whole game, bulldozing through the Billikins’ defense and moving the ball down field.
“We knew that we were the more physical team overall,” Kopp said. “But we also know that SLUH was a good team. They had some athletes, so we just know that we had to outwork them and I think we did that.”
Kopp finished the night with 166 yards and 3 touchdowns.
RB/DB Adam Dupoint Jr. This guy was the hero on defense last night. Dupoint had a game saving interception to put the nail in the coffin. He also played a huge part on the Flyers’ offense, recording 55 rushing yards and 36 receiving yards.
QB Luke Johnson Jr. Although the Bilikins had a hard lost, the young quarterback fought hard until the last second. Johnson’s arm was on fire, throwing numerous deep passes to his receivers, converting on third downs. He also had tremendous accuracy in his throws. Last night, Johnson threw for three touchdowns and had a couple of good runs. He is a great leader, and a fast and elusive quarterback. Johnson will lead his team back to the playoffs next year.
WR Chris Brooks Jr. Snatching everything out the air, Brooks was one of the main targets Johnson threw to the most. The 6 foot 2 receiver overpowered the Flyers’ defensive backs the whole game. He was also a threat on the ground, running jet sweeps for the Jr. Bilikins. Brooks will be a problem next year against defenses in the conference.
The Flyers will make their first district championship appearance against Fox High School next weekend.
