This unique 2020 pandemic riddled season has staggered the start of the Texas State High School Playoffs. So, this week I had the pleasure of watching class 4A teams fight for their playoff lives, while the big schools in 5A & 6A jockeyed for playoff position in critical late-season matchups.

I was able to scout games Thursday through Saturday this week, starting with a big second-round playoff tilt between the traditional power Gilmer, and their opponent, Godley.

The beast from the East lived up to their reputation, as Gilmer cruised past Godley (42-20) behind another strong performance from their star signal-caller.

  • Brandon Tennison, Gilmer (2022 Dual-Treat QB) finished 17-of-28 passing for 228 yards and the two touchdown passes and a relatively quiet 29 yards on the ground. This electric underclassman has set numerous records with his arms and legs this year passing for over 3,000 yards and rushing for more than 600 yards.
