It’s sectional championship week for Indiana high school football, and it’s not a coincidence these matchups feature some of the state’s college prospective athletes. Let’s take a look at players to watch in class A-3A championship games on Friday.
CLASS A:
A couple of small college prospects face-off in the Class A Sectional 46 championship on Friday. Senior quarterback Austin Frazier leads unbeaten Covenant Christian Warriors to take on the Indianapolis Lutheran Saints and Senior quarterback Blake White. Frazier and Warriors have been the surprise team in Class A, so far. The 6’3 190-pound quarterback has been the spark behind the team’s success, by throwing for 31 touchdowns in 11 games, while only being intercepted 6 times. On the other side, Blake White has been a steady and productive player over his career. According to MaxPreps, White has tallied over 6,300 yards in his career and has racked up 84 touchdowns in the air. The 6’1 185-pound gunslinger is on a mission to avenge the Saints’ one-point loss in the state finals last season. Look for these two to light up the scoreboard on Friday night. CLASS 2A:
Army Westpoint recruit Jaxon Miller Jaxon Miller 6'2" | 225 lbs | ATH Triton Central | 2021 State IN and the Triton Central Tigers are looking to capture a sectional title for the second year in a row when they take on Sectional 39 opponent Providence. Miller is a two-way star for a Tigers team that features some college prospective athletes to know. Freshman running back Ray Crawford has burst onto the scene, leading the Tiger’s rushing attack with 1139 yards and 13 touchdowns. On film, the 5’9 175 tailback showcases his toughness, good vision, and speed to get past second level defenders. In the secondary, class of 2023 defensive back, Isaiah Thacker has been impressive so far this season. At 6’0 170-pounds, Thacker has a mature frame at the corner spot with ball-hawking skills, helping him rake in 6 interceptions. The sophomore also serves on the offensive side at wideout. Another notable prospect in Class 2A action is Andrean sophomore linebacker, Drayk Bowen Drayk Bowen 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Andrean | 2023 State IN .
CLASS 3A
In Sectional 31, The 10-1 Lawrenceburg Tigers are on the hunt for the second consecutive sectional championship. The Tigers boast a roster of a couple of FBS level prospects, starting with the class of 2022 offensive tackle Ashton Craig. The 6’5 260-pound lineman is grabbing the attention of the likes of Purdue, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, and among others. Craig currently holds an offer from Central Michigan. The guy calling the shots behind center is also on several college’s radars. Junior quarterback Garrett Yoon, flashes a quick release and strong arm with the ability to make plays with his feet. Like his teammate, Yoon is hearing from several MAC teams. Yoon’s favorite target is 6’2 185-pound junior wideout Dahya Patel, who’s hauled in 11 touchdowns and closing in on the 1,000 yard receiving mark, at 931 yards. Other notable prospects in Class 3A action are Danville high’s junior quarterback Kale Payne. Payne is a 6’3 180-pound gunslinger who threw for 25 touchdowns as a sophomore and has added 20 more this year. His teammate Tyler Dostin, is a 6’4 22-pound junior wideout for the Danville Warriors but is seeing his recruitment pick up at the tight end position. A good one taking place in Sectional 28 when Indianapolis Chatard and Brebeuf Jesuit lock horns. Brebeuf standout player Joe Strickland Joe Strickland 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School | 2022 State IN headlines this battle. The Chatard Trojans have a playmaker themselves in junior ATH Matthew Coons.
