Lake Gibson Has Been A Force – All Season
In this article:
If you followed high school football long enough, you already know how Lake Gibson has long been turning out top-flight talent and very competitive teams.
While it’s tough living in the shadow of easily one of Florida’s top programs (Lakeland), the Braves have maintained a solid program, competing in 6A and being in the playoff mix each year.
After Friday night’s convincing win over Bradenton Southeast, it’s on to the next round – with the knowledge that you have some serious play-makers that can carry you to Tallahassee.
This season, it was again Lakeland that looked to steal the spotlight – beating the Braves – but this program has settled back in and has looked impressive all year. And the Dreadnaughts were eliminated by Tampa Bay Tech.
Impressive coaching and hard-working athletes have certainly been the difference in this crazy season.
Also, this team will be just as good next year – with only 11 seniors departing and 17 plus underclassmen who will be back with experience.
HOW THEY GOT TO 11-1
The Braves started the season out in record fashion (82-0) over Haines City. Came back to win against Auburndale (34-6), Arcadia DeSoto (47-0), Hardee County (38-0), Kissimmee Gateway (62-6), Kissimmee Liberty (62-0), Lakeland Kathleen (48-0), Winter Haven (34-27), Riverview Spoto (77-0), Bradenton Braden River (56-49) and Friday’s win against Southeast. Then, there was that 23-22 setback on September 25th against rival Lakeland.
