QB Reagan Andrew, Junior, MICDS (5’10, 180) The game didn’t start out that well for Andrew as he threw two picks early in the game. But the old saying goes, ’its not how you start but you finish.’ The junior finished with a flurry. Five touchdown passes later, two coming in the fourth quarter, helped seal the win for his team and propel MICDS onto the next round of the playoffs. Andrew doesn’t have prototypical college size but he doesn’t need to right now. What the QB does have is leadership, touch and accuracy. His teammates thrive off his success and truly rally around him. That is a rare quality and one that makes Andrew a MVP.
RB Jayden Purdy, Senior, Blair Oaks (5’8, 180) I love when seniors are the MVPs. They have been through the fire. They have handled difficult situations and don’t sweat the small things. Purdy fits that criteria and then some. The senior has played in championship games. He has performed under the bright lights and has answered the call again and again when his number was called. The senior leader did that again Saturday. The best player on the field showed up by rushing for 115 yards and three touchdowns in an epic win over stalwart Lutheran North. Purdy used his quick feet, shift and slide ability in the hole and hard-charging run style to move the chains and break the plane.
WR Luther Burden Luther Burden 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR East St Louis | 2022 State IL , Junior, Cardinal Ritter (6’2, 185) The University of Oklahoma commit is one of the elite players in the state, heck in the country and can take over a game anytime he chooses. Well, the junior chose Saturday afternoon to impose his will and in doing so, won the game for his squad. Burden had seven catches for 214 yards and three touchdowns. He was a man amongst boys, using his dominant size, powerful hands and top speed burst to score on two screens where he left the defenders in the dust. Cardinal Ritter is hitting on all cylinders right now and if Burden and company play like they did Saturday, CRCP will be hoisting a state cup.
WR Zane Meyers, Senior, Palmyra (5’10, 175) When his team needed him to make a play, Meyers answered the call and took the team up on his shoulders. Using outstanding route running and a savvy ability to get open, Meyers accounted for six grabs for 121 yards and two scores. Palmyra always seems to have a different player step up each game and in a do or die situation, Saturday the senior wide out stood up and was counted. Meyers isn’t ready for his senior campaign to be done so look for him to put on another MVP type performance this coming weekend.
