In fact, one can even say that they have had a better season than the Indians. Entering into week 9 of the high school football season throughout the state of Georgia, the Cougars have managed to record an 8-0 record. They have defeated teams such as Whitewater, Sandy Creek, Mary Persons, Harris County, King, North Paulding, McEachern, and Pebblebrook. With the amount of success that the Cougars have managed to have this year, the only thing holding them back from a perfect season is East Coweta.
While there have been plenty of strengths to this football team, the defensive play has been very impressive. On multiple accounts, the Cougars defense has held teams to less than 17 points a game- which is very impressive. Along with this, the defense has managed to accumulate 6 total interceptions, all from different players. This includes the likes of Denzel Boston, Josh Harris Josh Harris 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Newnan | 2021 State GA , Quanard Arnold, Derien Stepp, James Rosser, and Michai Hall. More impressively, the team has also totaled 20 sacks so far this season, with players such as Tripp Slaton, Brandon Tolvert, and Michai Hall holding the bulk of this number. Out of this group, Tolvert and Slaton each have 5 sacks. Defensively, these numbers are very impressive, and goes to show why the team is undefeated. If they can keep this up, they will have a shot at competing with anyone in the state.
Along with the defense, the offense has managed to have its fair share of success as well, with Michael Maginnis, and Bryson Moss Bryson Moss 5'8" | 195 lbs | RB Newnan County | 2021 State GA leading the charge. Moss, who has 12 TD’s and almost 500 yards, as well as Aubrey Carter, who has around 450 yards, have each been instrumental in terms of offensive success. In the passing game, Maginnis has had plenty of success as well, as he has thrown for over 1,600 yards, with 16 TD’s and only 1 interception. With this amount of success, it is no surprise that he has already committed to Samford. In terms of receiving, Josh Harris Josh Harris 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Newnan | 2021 State GA , who has totaled more than 580 yards, and Reid Brass, who has racked up over 400 yards, lead the entire team. Receivers such as Nick Owens have also had success as well. It is because of this offensive firepower that the Cougars have consistently put up 28 points or more a game. Along with this, its can also be noted that Newnan has had a very impressive season due to their consistency. If they can continue to do so, this may only be the beginning.
