The teams that have made our “favorites” list, did more than enough to separate themselves, and make a name for themselves as some of the best teams in the entire state, with high expectations on the rise as the playoffs draw near. While most of these teams have probably already caught your eye as well, they are certainly worth noting anyways due to how great of a season they have had up until this point.
Grayson High School
Just as they should be, Grayson High School is by far our favorite team heading into the playoffs. Besides, what is not to like about them this season. To this point, they are 7-0, and are ranked number 1 in the entire state. With this, they are also nationally ranked as well. With their new transfer QB, Jake Garcia commanding the offense, the Rams have become even deadlier, as proven by their 47-7 win against South Gwinnett this past Friday. Along with this, the team’s offense has been rolling, as players such as Phil Mafah Phil Mafah 6'1" | 213 lbs | RB Grayson | 2021 State GA , Jaden Smith, and Jamal Haynes Jamal Haynes 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Grayson | 2021 State GA have continued to put up big numbers. On the defensive side of the ball, Grayson has continued to dominate as well as they have not allowed more than 21 points in a game this season. Because of this, Grayson has a serious chance to win the state championship.
Lowndes High School
Lowndes High School is another program that has been on fire this season. The Vikings have players all over the board that continue to shine, and make a positive difference for the team. So far, the Vikings are 6-0, and are very strong on defense as well. Players such as TJ Quinn and Jalon Baker have been making noise, and making critical stops. In total, the defense has also totaled 9 interceptions so far this season, with Tylar Belcher leading the team with 4. Offensively, the Vikings have also been on a roll, as Jacurri Brown Jacurri Brown 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Lowndes | 2022 State GA , and Chase Belcher, and Dominique Marshall have all put up gaudy numbers. Look for Lowndes to be able to compete with almost anyone as they enter into the playoffs.
Warner Robins High School
Warner Robins, a program who always finds a way to compete at the highest level, is 6-1 so far this year. The only game in which the program lost was to Lee County, who is also having a stellar season. Perhaps, one of the things that can spotlight the teams success is the fact that their QB, Jalen Addie Jalen Addie 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Warner Robins | 2021 State GA has already thrown for over 1,000 yards, and has almost rushed for 550. With this, Jahlen Rutherford Jahlen Rutherford 5'9" | 190 lbs | RB Warner Robins | 2021 State GA has also been a key to the team’s success, as he has totaled more than 470 yards on the season. Armon Porter has also been a major factor in the passing game. On the defensive side of the ball, Warner Robins proves to be one of our favorite in the state due to the fact that players such as Vic Burley, and Ahmad Walker have had absolutely dominant defensive seasons. Particularly, Burley has totaled 9 sacks so far. The only thing that excites us remotely as much on the defensive side of the ball is the fact that Jay Carter, and Demarcious Robinson have all totaled more than 40 tackles so far.
Norcross High School
Last but not least, Norcross has also impressed us a great deal this season. They are 8-0 so far, and are 4-0 within their region. One of the reasons they are not higher on most lists is due to the fact that they have beaten teams that aren’t as highly toted as some of the opponents that the other schools on this list have faced. Nevertheless, the Blue Devils have not allowed more than 21 points in a game so far this season, and they have also continued to dominate on offense. Mason Kaplan has had a strong season throwing the ball, and has over 1,300 passing yards, with 14 TD’s and one interception. With this, Trey Goodman, and Lawson Luckie Lawson Luckie 6'3" | 225 lbs | TE Norcross | 2023 State GA have also dominated for him in the passing game, totaling more than 800 yards combined. With this, the Blue Devils have also shined on defense, as they have totaled 20 sacks to this point, with 5 interceptions. If they continue to play to this level, they can compete with multiple teams as they enter into the playoffs.
