Prior to the high school football season, New Jersey set a six-game regular season schedule followed by two weeks of postseason play. This did not include the Thanksgiving Day matchup, if schools allowed. Holy Spirit has played seven games this season. They have all been wins on the back of Smith.
Let’s take a look at Smith’s season thus far. He has rushed 219 times for 1,708 yards and 16 touchdowns. He began the season with 102 yards before really taking off.
In Week 2, Smith set a NewJersey record when he rushed for 362 yards and four touchdowns. He followed that up with 37 carries for 333 yards and three scores in Week 3. Smith would continue his dominant stretch by rushing for 230 or more yards in three of the next four games.
When you add it all up, Smith is exactly 292 yards from 2,000 on the season. For any running back, this would seem like a daunting task on Thanksgiving Day, but it is something that is extremely doable for Smith. Holy Spirit will take on Atlantic City at 10 AM on Thursday.
Smith is a three-star running back, according to 247Sports. He has 12 offers with teams like Vanderbilt, Colorado State, and Georgetown leading the way. Smith is someone who gets it done on the field and in the classroom. He also holds offers from Yale, Dartmouth, and Columbia.
The Holy Spirit product has the making of an elite running back at the Division I level. He is explosive, smart, and has great vision with the ball in his hands. Before he takes the next step, Smith will have a chance to make a bit of personal history in his final game.
