PCL Blue Division Week-In-Review: Ohara & N-G Open with Wins
In this piece, we will cover all the bases on all things Philadelphia Catholic League. Big wins, debuts, breakout players, and top prospect performances. If it happened you’ll hear about it here! This will be an ongoing, weekly piece capping off the results of the previous weekend’s games.
We dive into the Blue division where two premier clubs made their debut and won big this past Halloween weekend.
Lansdale Catholic (0-2) 0 – Bonner & Prendie(3-0) 34
After a one-score defeat at the hands of Conwell-Egan (21-14), Lansdale Catholic lose big against Bonner-Prendie on the road. Lansdale couldn’t muster enough offense to score but Luke Shrager, who plays running back and linebacker, led the team in rushing yards (6 att, 25yds) and currently leads the team in tackles (16). Quarterback Jeron Phillips completed 9 of 11 balls for 73 yards, with Shrager again catching 2 for 21. Shrager also leads the team in receiving yards on the year with 38. Bonner-Prendie continued their dominant run to begin the season. They have ran through their opponents, allowing just one touchdown thus far and outscoring opponents 97-6 this year. Running back Mason Peterson toted the rock for just under 10 yards a pop (8-77 yards 1 TD). The junior is a favorite of ours and has surmounted 300 rushing yards in three games played. Quarterback Kyle Lazer, who will be spotlighted in a future unranked prospect piece, didn’t have to do much through the air, completing 7 of 13 passes for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns. Nasiim Rhodes-Nelson, a senior prospect who flies around the field, currently leads the team in tackles with 15 and tied for the team lead with 2 sacks and 5 tackles for loss. Lansdale’s next matchup will be a home bout against Salesianum, while B&P is not scheduled to play this weekend.
Archbishop Ryan (0-3) 6 – Cardinal O’Hara (1-0) 35
You can find Archbishop Ryan’s player analysis in the PCL Red Division piece. Cardinal O’Hara opened their 2020 season late but albeit with a victory and a big one at that. A well-rested Daniel McPhillips, runningback for CO, ran 19 times for 102 yards and a touchdown. O’Hara ran the ball for 200+ yards with four different players rushing for at least 20+ yards. Quarterback Brett Shoman had a quiet passing day (4-6, 82yards, 1TD) but was one of the four players to run for more than 20+ yards mentioned above. Edmund Wisseh, a 6’3″ sophomore defensive lineman, wreaked havoc and was a constant disruptor behind the line of scrimmage. He led the team with 9 total tackles, with an awesome five of those being tackles for loss. Wisseh will stay on our radar for the time being. Joshua McKnight also added a scoop and score on defense.
Conwell-Egan (1-2) 0 – Bishop McDevitt (2-1) 14
The year may not be starting on the right path for CEC, nonetheless, running back and Old Dominion commit Khian’dre Harris Khian’dre Harris 5'9" | 165 lbs | RB Conwell-Egan Catholic | 2021 PA has done his part in keeping the offense afloat despite being shutout this past weekend, rushing for 70+ yards in each of his three games played (48 att, 226yds, 2TDs). Harris also showed up on the passing chart for CEC. Harris was held without a catch but Temple commit Andrew Garwo Andrew Garwo 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Conwell-Egan Catholic | 2021 PA , who leads the team in receiving, was also held in check with a modest 2 catches for 13 yards. Garwo does his damage on the defensive side of the ball, he’s been solid thus far, tied for the second-most tackles on the team (14), recording one sack, and has a pick-six under his belt this year. Bishop McDevitt has picked up the pace these past two weeks, allowing just one touchdown in that span. Junior running back James Bermudez James Bermudez 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Northeast | 2023 State PA has been on a tear in McDevitt’s two wins, carrying the ball 48 times for 270 yards on the year and four touchdowns to go along. Nick Santo has taken the majority of reps at the quarterback position and has been effective. He’s 14-21 on the year, throwing for 196 yards and two touchdowns. The offense has more options when the passing game is on. Johnny Pergine has been mentioned in previous articles and we continue to like what he’s done on defense. 23 total tackles, 9 being for a loss, 3.5 sacks, and added another interception this past weekend. He’s certainly in-line for a rankings boost. Star prospect Semaj Bridgeman Semaj Bridgeman 6'2" | 235 lbs | LB Imhotep Charter | 2023 State PA has been a constant disruptor behind the line of scrimmage but look out for Kelvin Zoomie. Zoomie has had an interception in each of McDevitt’s two wins.
Neumann-Goretti (1-0) 28 – Archbishop Carroll (1-2) 21
Neumann-Goretti starts the year off on the right foot with a narrow victory against the now 1-2 Patriots. N&G was led by junior prospect Marqui Adams Marqui Adams 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Neumann-Goretti | 2022 State PA who’s arm was on full display. There wasn’t much Carroll could do to stop this kid as he was hitting multiple targets on multiple types of throws. Adams finished completing 14 of 20 passes, for 242 yards and one touchdown. Raleigh Collins Raleigh Collins 6'4" | 190 lbs | DB Neumann-Goretti | 2022 State PA and Shawn Battle Shawn Battle 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Neumann-Goretti | 2023 State PA , two well-known prospects combined for a defensive touchdown that proved pivotal to N&G’s win. Collins, who leads the team in tackles (6) forced a fumble which was picked up by Battle and returned 25 yards for a score. Ani Jones also had a pick-six of 47 yards and added a whopping three sacks on the day. Those three sacks didn’t lead the team believe it or not. Tyre Towles had 3.5 on the day! N&G’s defense stepped up this past weekend. Carroll, who started the year in dominant fashion, has since lost two straight. Through three weeks, the Nick Lamey to Malachi Hansen connection has been nothing short of prolific. Lamey was running for his life for the majority of the game but still managed to throw for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Lamey has been a volume thrower thus far and will be featured in an unranked prospect piece soon. Malachi Hansen has been an absolute playmaker for the Patriots, leading the team with 240 receiving yards and three touchdowns in three games. Two more players we will keep our eyes on are Brennan Robinson, who has 5 touchdowns on the year ( 2 rushing, 1 receiving, 2 kick returns) and does so much for Carroll, and Darryl Simpson, who has 3 sacks on the year, leading the team.
