If it happened you’ll hear about it here! This will be an ongoing, weekly piece capping off the results of the previous weekend’s games.
We dive into the Red division where two quarterback prospects showed out this past weekend.
Archbishop Ryan (0-4) 0 – Upper Moreland 35
A brutal loss in PIAA 1st Round Play. Ryan now falls to 0-4 and have allowed on average a terrible 38 points per game. In what was a lost season for Archbishop Ryan, wasn’t without effort from a few players. Talented quarterback Dwayne Yost was average at best yet understandably considering the early deficits. To name a few other players are Arturo Brunelli and Joe Mastrangelo. Both players are atop the tackling leaderboards with 33 and 23 respectively. Mastrangelo is responsible for every touchdown scored by Ryan this season (3) while also picking off Upper Moreland for his first interception on the year. Brunelli also leads the team in rushing as well as tackles, running 53 times for a modest 135 yards.
Archbishop Wood (2-2) 0 – La Salle (5-1) 27
We all expected this game to be a whole lot closer, but we have to lead off with La Salle’s defensive standouts for their shut-out performance against a 2-1 Wood team, albeit without their star player in Kaelin Costello. Chris Thompson has now surpassed 50 total tackles on the year and has been a sideline-to-sideline player for the Explorers. Thompson is averaging 8 tackles a game thus far. Much is known about Abdul Carter Abdul Carter 6'3" | 225 lbs | LB Lasalle College | 2022 State PA ’s excellence, but look out for Paul Jennings. Jennings, who is tied for 4th on the team with 25 tackles, leads the team with 4 sacks on the year! La Salle has bounced back after the loss to SJP, winning two straight against PCL opponents. The team ran for 225 yards thanks to terrific play by running back Samuel Brown Samuel Brown 6'3" | 200 lbs | RB Lasalle College | 2022 State PA and quarterback Gavin Daly. Daly scored three times on the ground, running the ball 11 times for 114 yards.
Woertz and Costello, two highly productive Wood players have been in and out of the lineup and this has drastically hurt Wood’s efficiency on offense. After a promising week one performance, quarterback Max Keller Max Keller 6'0" | 176 lbs | QB Archbishop Wood | 2021 PA has struggled to produce any kind of offense. A fully healthy Wood offense is too talented to be shut out in back-to-back games. We will see what transpires against Malvern Prep this coming weekend.
St.Joseph’s Prep (4-0) 42- Roman (0-4) 0
Not much can be said about Roman Catholic’s abyssmal year. This was their second shutout of the year albeit against supreme talent. Quite simply, the offense cannot move the ball and the defense cannot stop anyone. We don’t like to dwell on negativity here, it is impressive to see Jaden Pope surpass 120 yards through the air against the stingiest of defenses in SJP. Defenders James Kunek, Shermar Ellis, and Kareem Lewis each has surpassed 30 tackles on the year which is also impressive.
Tis another win in dominant fashion for the powerhouse of Eastern Pennsylvania football. SJP is outscoring opponents at an alarming rate, winning 94-6 in the past two weeks. Running backs Noble House and Blaine Bunch continue their consistency and alleviated the burden off the passing attacks hands. The House/Bunch combination ran for 156 yards and three total touchdowns. Congratulations are in order for quarterback Kyle McCord Kyle McCord 6'2" | 207 lbs | QB St Joes Prep | 2021 State PA who put up another easy 230+ night through the air, which helped him surpass 1,000 yards on the season in just four games.
