If it happened you’ll hear about it here! This will be an ongoing, weekly piece capping off the results of the previous weekend’s games.
We dive into the Red division where two premier clubs continued to dominate past Halloween weekend.
Archbishop Ryan (0-3) 6 – Cardinal O’Hara – 35
It’s been a tough 2020 for the Raiders, to say the least. Archbishop Ryan falls to 0-3 after another bad loss against albeit a formidable foe in Cardinal O’Hara. Ryan is struggling on both sides of the ball but quarterback Dwayne Yost played his best game this past weekend, going 11 for 16, 82yards, and a touchdown. Yost has thrown a touchdown pass in each game thus far. Joe Mastrangelo is pretty much the entire offense. He’s been on the receiving end of each touchdown pass by Yost and leads the team with 133 receiving yards. The defense has given up 35+ points in each of its three games played. Arturo Brunelli leads the team with 30 tackles on the year and also leads the team in rushing (130). Cardinal O’Hara’s write-up can be found here.
St. Joseph’s Prep (3-0) 52 – Archbishop Wood (2-1) 6
SJP continues to light up the scoreboard, scoring 52 points which stands as the highest scoring total among PCL teams thus far. Blaine Bunch and Noble House have picked up the rushing attack in Barlow’s absence. House leads the team in carries but Bunch still leads the team in rushing with 177 yards on 25 carries. Each back has 4 touchdowns on the year. Kyle McCord Kyle McCord 6'2" | 207 lbs | QB St Joes Prep | 2021 State PA and his trio of prolific wideouts shredded AB Wood, as they do most teams. In three games, Marvin Harrison Jr Marvin Harrison Jr 6'2" | 185 lbs | WR St Joes Prep | 2021 State PA ., Malik Cooper Malik Cooper 5'9" | 165 lbs | WR St. Joseph's Preparatory School | 2021 State PA , and Sahmir Hagans Sahmir Hagans 5'9" | 175 lbs | WR St. Joseph's Preparatory School | 2021 State PA have caught 37 of a potential 46 balls for a whopping 743 yards! Incredible numbers by incredible prospects. McCord went 12 for 23 on the day, throwing for 234 yards and 4 scores. Senior defensive back Julian Talley reeled in another interception (2) while Clemson commit Jeremiah Trotter also caught an interception, his first of the year which he returned 31 yards for a score. Junior Noah Klick has made solid stops on defense and maybe one of the more slept on prospects on a team loaded with talent. The Trotter brothers and company will take on a struggling Roman Catholic team next.
Wood started off the season with two great wins amongst PCL rival teams, but ran into a buzzsaw against SJP. It isn’t a loss that should or will derail the season. PCL’s second-leading rusher, Kaelin Costello, was limited to just one-quarter of play which significantly thwarted Wood’s running attack. Missing Ryan Woertz, the teams leading pass-catcher, also didn’t help Wood’s chances of keeping up with SJP. Wood looks to bounce back against La Salle this Saturday.
Roman (0-3) 6 – La Salle (4-1) 32
Much Like AB Ryan, Roman Catholic has struggled mightily on both sides of the ball. Potential breakout prospect Jaden Pope had his best game from a yardage standpoint throwing for a season-high 136 yards. Shermar Ellis makes an impact any and everywhere on the field, however, his efforts weren’t enough to make this a close game. Ellis and James Kunek lead the way on defense, combining for a total of 57 total tackles. La Salle looked fresh off a bye week as they won big on senior day. A deeper report will be released once more footage can be attained. La Salle matches up against Arch Bishop Wood this Saturday in a must-watch game.
