The Chaparral pass protection stepped up big to help QB Brayten Silbor Brayten Silbor 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Chaparral | 2022 State AZ sling it around. Despite the score, both teams showcased some flashes serious talent, with some young faces to watch in the future. If Chaparral can get a playoff bid, they can definitely be a sneaky team to make a run for a ring. Take a look at 6 offensive standouts from the Pinnacle @ Chaparral matchup:
Offensive MVP: Brayten Silbor Brayten Silbor 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Chaparral | 2022 State AZ , QB, Chaparral (C/O 2022)
Silbor was a gunslinger all night by throwing for 397 yards with 5 TD’s and running for another, finishing the night with 6 total TD’s. Silbor has very impressive arm strength and velocity. Silbor was very effective with the deep ball as he was consistently able to find his receivers downfield. Silbor does a good job of getting depth on his drop backs and seemed to go through progression very well. He has a very quick release and make solid reads all night. He did a very good job of identifying matchups, as that was key in his ability to throw the deep ball for TD’s and big plays. Silbor’s most impressive throws of the night were a 26 yard vert with great touch and placement for an over the shoulder TD, and a 43 yard dart to a streaking Maxwell Minor Maxwell Minor 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR Chaparral | 2021 State AZ for six. Silbor proved to be a lethal pocket passer, and played like he wants a shot in the playoffs. Silbor is definitely a 2022 player to get on your radar, as he showed D1 talent against Pinnacle.
Maxwell Minor Maxwell Minor 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR Chaparral | 2021 State AZ , WR, Chaparral (C/O 2021)
Minor finished the night with 3 TD’s on 42, 26, and 5 yard catches with well over 100 yards receiving. He was a complete mismatch on everyone he lined up against. He has a long, athletic frame at 6’4″ 195lbs with solid speed and coordination. Minor is your prototypical outside receiver. He runs clean routes with good route integrity, but does his best work as a deep ball pass catcher. He was able to get clean releases on off-man coverage to consistently make himself open downfield. He has a solid leaping ability and utilizes his reach well to high point and win contested balls. He showed excellent ball tracking and body control on an over the shoulder vert, strong hands on what looked like a corner route, and excellent field awareness on shallower routes on the night by getting to the sticks. Minor was a huge target all night, and showcased some legit talent.
Devon Dampier Devon Dampier 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Saguaro | 2023 State AZ , QB, Pinnacle (C/O 2023)
Dampier had guys in his face all night and still managed to lead multiple drives downfield. He had numerous 3rd down conversions in which he showcased his playmaker ability. He reads the hole well on designed QB runs as he was able to pick up a couple good chunks of yards and showed a spark as a ball carrier. Dampier was able to make some college level throws by fitting balls into tight windows with excellent velocity and placement. They tried to nickel and dime their way downfield in the second half, and Dampier was able to get out the pocket to move the ball and showed a good self clock by knowing when to abandon the pass and take off. Dampier is still young, but his maturity is growing quick as he has played against some of the state’s toughest competition thus far.
Jared Williams Jared Williams 5'11" | 205 lbs | RB Chaparral | 2021 State AZ , RB, Chaparral (C/O 2021)
Williams accounted for Chaparral’s first score of the game and helped Chaparral establish the run in the 1st quarter to really open up the pass. Williams is definitely an underrated back, as he showed to be a physical runner with good lateral agility. The first drive, he led Chaparral down the field by constantly breaking tackles for solid chunks of yards. He is a playmaker at RB, as Pinnacle had him hit in the backfield multiple times and he was able to throw stiff arms and bounce off tackles to turn 3 yard losses into gains. Williams shows a good burst through the hole and very good lateral acceleration to spring him into open field. Williams can serve as your workhorse type back and will be a key player for Chaparral’s offense if they can land a spot in the playoffs to keep the explosive offense rolling.
Capri Hamilton Capri Hamilton 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Chaparral | 2021 State AZ , WR, Chaparral (C/O 2021)
Hamilton was a huge threat with screens and shallow underneath routes throughout the night. Hamilton is a very shifty and jittery ball carrier with big play ability. He has excellent footwork and short area quickness. He runs very good routes as he displayed a solid stick at the top of routes and was able to burst out of his cuts to generate solid separation. He was consistently catching screens while juking and cutting his way for 10+ yard gains. Hamilton is one of the best route runners I’ve seen live this season, as he is already your prototypical slot at the college level. He had a a 10 yard TD where he was wide open in the middle of the field to score. Hamilton is fearless and plays with a high motor, and is 100% a player to get on your recruiting board as a D2 prospect.
Jacobie Rucker, RB, Pinnacle (C/O 2023)
Rucker accounted for Pinnacle’s only TD on a 1 yd run. However, Rucker had multiple impressive plays on the night. He is your power back, downhill runner that punishes head up tacklers. He has a short, stocky build and runs like a truck. The play before his TD, He had a 10 yard run down to the 1 in which he dragged and pushed about 5 different Chaparral defenders. Later in the game, he had a couple bursts up the middle where he again was running through opponents. Rucker finishes runs and looks for contact. Oftentimes he would have guys in his grill at the LOS and still manage to come up with 3 or so yards. Rucker is a very strong 2023 kid on a talented young team, and is a name to remember going into next season.
