Although the 2020 high school football season was filled with uncertainty, irregularities, and obstacles never before seen in high school sports, this senior prep made the very most of his opportunities and had an incredibly productive 2020 shortened season. This distinction can potentially be awarded to a prep of any age and at any position, and the winner of this Player of the Year prize is chosen for a variety of reasons. The most distinguishing reason really comes down to the value they bring to their team and program. If they weren’t on their squad or didn’t succeed like they did, how good would the team really be? The 2020 winner of this Award really proved themselves to be the most valuable player in the state to their team, and their personal statistics, accomplishments, and potential as a college football player were only an added bonus. Without further ado we at PrepRedzoneMN are excited to announce the first-ever winner of our Player of the Year Award: Moorhead Spud quarterback Trey Feeney Trey Feeney 6'2" | QB Moorhead | 2021 State MN .
The 6’2, 210 lb. North Dakota Fighting Hawks commit helped lead the Spuds to an undefeated record and a 2020 AP 5A Mythical State Championship. He led the entire state of Minnesota in completions (137), yards (1965), and TDs (36) and added 43 rushes for 196 yards and 2 TDs. He finishes his career with over 4,500 yards passing and over 60 passing touchdowns, and has been a varsity starter since his sophomore season in 2017. He possesses a cannon for an arm and make accurate and hard-thrown balls into tight windows at all levels of the field. He can move and throw inside or outside of the pocket, can improvise when things break down, and can hurt defenses with his legs if he needs to. He’s one of the most complete Minnesota high school quarterbacks since Joe Mauer and is a natural leader on and off the field in the Moorhead community. He’s a fantastic quarterback commit for the Fighting Hawks and will play a ton of football in Grand Forks the next 4-5 years. It has been a pleasure watching you over the past few years, Trey. Best of luck from PrepRedzoneMN and thank you for representing the state of Minnesota so well. Big things coming!
